My toddler (21m) eats what I consider to be a limited diet and has done ever since I started weaning. I expected this kind of eating at a later age but not from the beginning, and I am just worried that she may be limited in some nutrients. Looking for any thoughts on if what she eats is normal and/or if she’s missing some vital nutrients. She is not underweight so I’m not worried about this.
She ate nothing other than yoghurt and strawberry for the first 2 months of weaning. I did both purées and baby led but she wouldn’t open her mouth for a spoon and she wouldn’t swallow anything baby led. I cook most meals from scratch and don’t give her many snacks (banana in the morning, nothing regular in the afternoon).
She eats weetabix for breakfast and usually some type of sandwich for lunch. It’s the evening meals I struggle with, and she gets offered the same as what we eat (I always make sure there is one item she will eat on her plate though). Pretty much unless it’s pizza or pasta she won’t eat it.
She won’t eat:
- chicken
- Any other meat other than sausage
- Fish (most of the time)
- Potatoes apart from chips
- Eggs
- Rice
- Beans/lentils
- Pancakes
- Vegetables (apart from peas, sweetcorn or mushrooms)
She will eat:
- pasta and sauce (I puree veg into the sauce)
- Bread or equivalent
- Pizza (I hide carrot on this)
- Some fruits
- Cheese, milk
- Weetabix
- Yoghurt
- Soup
Any thoughts please as to if this is normal and if she is missing anything vital? Anything else I can try? She has a multi vitamin each day.
Many thanks
