Is apple too hard for a BLW 8mo? Would you steam it?

I've been giving softer stuff: ripe pear, banana, mango, melon, and steamed veg. Just wondering if apple is too hard and would be a choking hazard.

I gave my ds apple fairly early on, but can't remember the exact age. If you are nervous about it, you can grate it. Also, if you mix grated apple into yogurt or custard, then they can eat it with their hands.

I was wondering this too, naturelover. Grating is out for us as DS has no pincer grip yet. I suppose you could just try it if it seems fairly ripe and just monitor baby closely to see how they get on.

Pncer grip not neccessary Tinkjon. I can still picture my ds with fistfuls of the stuff!

Oh, you're right of course Mawbroom! Silly me! What I meant was that he isn't able to get food out of his fist at the moment, only the bits sticking out of it. I was talking to someone else about pincer grip/eating peas and I obviously typed that instead

naturelover, I tried DS (same as as yours lo) with some peach today - it wasn't very ripe for a peach but I reckon it was the texture of a ripe apple. Anyway he gagged and spluttered like crazy, so I'd probably steam apple if it were me. But your lo may not be quite such a drama queen as mine
