Advice for weaning my baby who has CMPA

Hi,

My baby has a cows milk protein allergy he is on Nutramigen milk. He also has severe eczema as a side effect of the CMPA.

I had an appointment with the dietician who said it would be beneficial to start weaning him as he is now 6 & 1/2 months old. Any advice on where to start with weaning? I have been told to be careful as babies who have a milk allergy and eczema can be sensitive to certain foods. I know he has to be diary free but I just don’t have a clue where to start so just looking for advice ☺️

What Mummy Makes first book and Joe Wicks Wean in 15 has very clear dairy free recipes and What Mummy Makes has easy to follow adaptations to dairy free!

We were diagnosed just as we started weaning so to begin with wasn’t a problem as we started with just veg!

I’ve got CMPA but I’m ok with a “may contain” as I have non-Ige symptoms.

Has anyone given you any advice at all? Are you under the Allergy Clinic and a Paediatric Dietician?

When babies were weaned at a much younger age it was usual to start on fruit and veg and only offer a single food.

if their allergies are so severe I’d be tempted to do that for a short while, just so that you can see if they are developing any new symptoms. I’d also keep a food diary with what you e fed them and how their symptoms are.

I’d maybe start with something like some carrot purée and some carrot as a finger food. The Solid Start website shows you how to offer them in an age appropriate way.

Once you’ve tried carrot for a couple of days then try something like pear?

Carrots are an amazing source of vitamin A, an essential vitamin for healthy vision. They are a choking hazard that must be prepared safely.

Sorry just seen that you’re under a Dietitian. Didn’t they give you any information at all in how to wean and what to offer?
