How long before I can give breakfast? Also, what should I give for breakfast?

Bee weaning 6mth DS2 for a few six days now and he's on veg purees for 'lunch' and 'dinner'. Just wondering when I should start to give him a 'breakfast' and also what should I give him for breakfast. I vaguely remember giving DS1 weetabix at some point but he was formula fed so it was easy to put his milk in the weetabix. DS2 is breastfed and I really don't want to express milk (looking after two kids is faff enough!)

he can have cows' milk on his weetabix - tis fine from 6m so long as you don't use it as a main drink.

Hi MrsB - cow's milk? really? I thought it was a year? Be fab and easy to do it with cow's milk. PLus is it ok to give him 3 meals a day already? Been a just under a week of weaning.

yes so long as you are not an allergicky family

no clue on the three-meals thing - dd did BLW so was offered something three times a day but more often than not threw it on the floor / rubbed it in her hair etc till about 9m.

Mucho gracias Mrs B!

Breakfast has always been dd's favourite meal of the day. We didn't bother with purees, just offered normal food at meal times from the start (some of which she ate, a lot of which she re-decorated the kitchen with). DD loved and still loves porridge, weetabix, fruit, yoghurt, pancakes, omelette, scrambled eggs, toast and marmite, muffins, pitta bread etc

i didn't know that re cows milk mrsb that is v interesting! why is it after 6mths in food ,just cos it's smaller quantities? take it you would use full fat?

MrsBadger · 12/05/2008 14:27

yes, the idea is it's part of 'solids' and isn't replacing ff / bm.
And yes, full fat till they're at least 2.

That's great - I've been giving DD Weetabix with ebm, so will move onto cows milk forthwith! Thanks.
