wholemeal bread

I read something about a high fibre diet not being suitable for babies. So should I just give my baby white bread only? I always eat brown bread myself and had planned to just give him the same.

so long as you're not cramming him with wholemeal bread, brown pasta, All Bran and brown rice to the exclusion of protein, fats and fruit and veg I think you'll be ok - just having brown bread doesn't mean it's a 'high fibre diet'.

Thanks

I would prefer not to give him white bread so that's good to know.

I was wondering the same thing myself! We usually eat that Best Of Both stuff (a mixture of white and wholemeal) and DS does have that but I wondered if it should be white only. I've also heard that white bread isn't that good for little babies because it goes to a sticky goo more than brown bread, and so it's more liable to make them choke. But then isn't white bread higher in something - calcium? Folic acid? I'm sure something is added to white bread by law, which isn't added to brown bread, but I forget what.

I think if you're feeding your baby nothing but prunes and bran then you might run into problems, but on the whole if when they get bread it's wholemeal you're doing them a favour IMO. Most white bread is full of crap anyway. As long as the diet is balanced (plenty protein and carbs and fat and fresh veg and fruit) I think it's hard to go wrong with fibre.
