Clip-on highchair

I'm not sure if this is the right topic, but seemed the closest to me.

I was wondering if anyone had tried one of those clip-on highchairs that attach to the table. We're just starting on solids and I'd like DD to eat at the table with us if possible and these seemed like a good idea, although I thought they possibly looked a bit flimsy for everyday use. Has anyone given them a go?

This is the kind of thing I mean if you're not sure what I'm talking about

yep we had one. v sturdy.
check under your table to see how its constructed as some designs dont open wide enough to attach to all tables, but once you get one that fits, its as sturdy as the table you attach it to.

LeelaBoBoo we have a Handysitt, which doesn't clip to table, but attaches to chair. We've found it fantastic - really useful both at home and out and about.

Clip on highchairs are one of the two baby products that RoSPA recommend not buying owing to accident risk (the other is bath seats)

We also have a Stokke and have bought another one for baby 2 (due August) and they are great and it's lovely for DS to have his own seat at the table. We also have a Chair in a Bag, which is great for carrying around (it as kept in the bottom of the pram), but we keep the Handysitt in the car as the Chair in a Bag doesn't lift baby up to table level, whereas the Handysitt does.

misboring I did have a baby bath seat and DS did love it so I'll be ressurecting it for number 2!

Thanks for your quick replies - I knew I could rely on you! I like the Stokke chairs but now that I'm on SMP money is a bit tight and I'm not sure the budget will stretch to one of those. Will do some more mulling over...

well esp if budget is tight, you want the highchair from ikea. its simple and easy to use, at the table or with the tray, has no crevices for food to hide (believe me this is an issue) and costs about 12 quid.
youd be mad to buy owt else frankly.

fwiw i also have 3 stokke tripptrapps and although they are nice, they are not the be all and end all of child seating. a few bar stool type things or the eternally outofstock agam chair from ikea would be just as good for my 2, 3 and 4yos (the tripptrapp selling point is that they grow with the child)

Yes, I've used that Ikea chair lots in restaurants/tearooms etc. and it's very good.

You could equally get one of the booster type seats that goes in a chair - they're more versatile than a table clip anyway, as even if you're satisfied with your own table you can't be sure how others' tables are.
