My daughter is 6 months old and I have started weaning while breastfeeding. She has cows milk protein allergy and I suspected a couple more allergies/intolerances so I cut out dairy, eggs, fish, nuts, soy, apple and saw a difference but now that I'm weaning I wanted to test out if she is able to eat these foods since it's not an official diagnosis. Only the cows milk protein allergy is.

She has done fine with banana and oatmeal. She did not do well with apple which I suspected and she did not do so well with avocado and eggs.

With avocado and eggs I noticed she was spitting up a lot more and having hiccups which was one of her usual symptoms of cows milk protein allergy until I cut out dairy. I cooked the eggs with dairy free butter.

I'm trying to take it easy with the process of weaning and I'm not sure if I'm overthinking this but could she have an intolerance to egg and avocado? Or because they are foods high in fat/ protein baby's stomach needs to get used to them? Is this reaction normal when weaning.

I can imagine that it's really, really frustrating. I think that it is entirely possible to have an allergy to both avocados and to eggs although obviously I can't tell you if your DD has these allergies.

Have you spoken to Allergy UK yet about weaning and allergies? They are generally very helpful and it's a well respected charity.

Has your GP referred LO to a Paediatric Dietician yet and has she been referred for allergy testing too?

@TinyMouseTheatre Thank you for your reply! I just briefly looked at the website and will be calling tomorrow.

Just last month I spoke to a pediatric dietician while baby hadn't started solids yet and I told her how she still had symptoms even after cutting out dairy. She told me it could be soy and to cut that out. Then she booked an appointment for when my LO will be 11 months to teach me how to incorporate dairy products in her diet. She kept saying how it's not common for babies to have other allergies but while I've been weaning her she handles some foods better than others. So it's either allergy or intolerance. Either way it's not nice seeing my daughter in pain. And I'm going to have to talk to my GP again and health visitor

I don't think it's called an intolerance anymore.

There's two types of allergy. There's IGE which gives immediate symptoms and there's non-IGE where you still get an allergic reaction but it can take up to 72 hours for the symptoms to become obvious. I've got non-IGE CMPA.

This article from Kellymom explains it way better than I ever could though Wink

Google “egg ladder”. It shows you how to introduce egg to babies - starting with foods where eggs are fully cooked (eg in an egg pasta or egg noodle) and then gradually working your way up to just eggs. We did this and it worked but our kid doesn’t have any other allergies.

avacado could be linked to a latex allergy, I know someone (adult) who can’t eat avocado for this reason. Best to seek medical advice if you suspect allergies.

my personal sense is you might be overthinking it. My baby also refluxed a lot when introducing new foods, my partner constantly thought he had a rash and this and that. I figured he was just adapting to new food groups, and it turns out that’s all it was. I would just take it all very slowly, only give small amounts over time.
