Salt in Cheese

One of the few things dd2 (8 months) will eat is cheese but i'm concerned about the high salt content. the strong cheddar we use is 2g and in sainsburys yesterday all the hard cheeses were between 1.7g and 2g. the only hard cheeses without salt were made with unpasturised milk - which should be avoided, yes?!
I can't remember for the life of me getting worried about cheese when weaning dd1 so could you help me out? Is hard cheese ok even with salt or should i hold off until she's older (she also loves philly but can't see salt on the label tho i notice on past threads people say it does have salt..?)

It sounds like that is the salt content for the entire block of cheese (around 300g block). Normal mild cheddar is absolutely fine as you would be grating it or giving it in small amounts - can't imagine your DD is eating an entire cheese block!

Asda do a good one - garden gang mild cheddar. Comes in handy stick sizes and I am sure that it is lower in salt than 'normal' adult cheeses. Had a taste and it is too mild for me though!

Just wish my DS would eat cheese or anything other than fish fingers for that matter!

annoyingly don't have an asda anywhere near us but thanks for the tip. if my mum comes down i'll get her to get some.
the green (goaats cheese) baby bel appears to have no salt so i'm using that too.
although why i bother when most of it gets dropped on the floor and eaten by the dog i don't know
