DS started on solids about 10 days ago, aged 6 months and a couple of days. It's going brilliantly - he loves food and is getting far more into his tummy and much less on the floor than I'd have imagined.
I was all set to take it nice and slowly, but the thing is, he eats everything I put in front of him (well, apart from broccoli, but hey ). It's still mostly fruit and veg, but he also loves toast, yoghurt and cheese.
For example, yesterday for lunch he had two slices of toast and butter with avocado on top, followed by a whole banana. And this was immediately after a bf! I have been giving him a bit of fruit about 4pm too, but didn't yesterday as I assumed he'd be full, but he then had two bfs in quick succession around 4pm, so I think he missed it.
He is a big boy - 98th centile - and was exc bf till 6mo and still bf on demand. I haven't really noticed him dropping feeds; in fact, he's now slipped in an extra one about an hour after the first one of the day, which makes me wonder if I ought to start him on some breakfast too.
I was very confident when exc bf that he was only taking as much as he needed and was meant to be a big baby; that was one of the attractions of BLW too. But could he be eating too much? I think he'd happily scoff three meals a day already if I put it in front of him...

Hi all I can say is my son same age as yours is just the same, he now has all three meals and bfs less during the day, the doctor says its fine just keep everything healthy, my main problem is he still wants so many night feeds, do you have this problem too? when I try and cut out bfs at night he gets very upset. he is waking every three hrs which is exhausting, if i dont feed him he screams and doesnt give up. I cant keep on putting it down to teething as he has two teeth fully through. sorry not much help but interested in someone who has a hungry baby too.

thanks mumkin, that's reassuring! think i will start him on some porridge tomorrow morning and see what he makes of that.
night time is not so bad for us - he now has two bfs between bedtime at 8pm and getting up at 7am, although it used to be one, but that changed before he started on solids, so i'm just hoping it will settle down again soon... i think he is still hungry when he wakes in the night so haven't tried to cut them out, but am sure he would scream if i did try! must be tiring for you

we make porridge with cooked apple chunks and milk and liquidise a bit for a lumpy texture, he loves it. Im praying for less wake ups soon. let me know how brekky goes...
