Does rice milk count when working out total milk quantity?

Am BF my 8mo DTs and am not overly concerned about their milk intake as they are still have 4 daytime BFs and I night BF. However, just for future ref, when they start to drop feeds, does rice milk count as part of the 'pint of milk a day' quota? (DT2 is cow's milk allergic and so they both drink rice milk by default on their cereal)

I think it's calcium fortified but not sure what otjer redeeming qualities it has apart from making Weetabix wet!

It counts towards calcium content, as IIRC it has the same amount of calcium added as cow's milk contains. I think it is lower in fat and protein, but that's not terribly important as it will eventually balance out through the rest of their diet.

IMO it's biggest redeeming quality is that it's tastier than soya!

Have you tried Oatly?

Ooh, no I haven't, is it nice?

I actually don't like the taste of cow's milk so we all have rice milk on our brekkie, maybe we'll give Oatley a go too.

Not having drunk cow's milk in years, I find Oatly to be the nearest substitute in taste and creaminess. It's not as sweet as rice milk.

I think it may be a good idea for you to talk to a paediatric dietician/ nutritionist about non dairy substitutes as to what may be the most nutritionally balanced. I hear that rice milk is really very suitable for children under 5. Your Gp can refer you.

*** I meant to say that rice milk is NOT very nutritionally balanced for young children in my last message. Sorry !!
