The thread for babies who won't eat

Because my 10 mos old DD is driving me insane. I want company.

Have just chucked out a pot of mashed potato mixed with mascarpone and leeks fried in butter (then pureed). WHO IN THEIR RIGHT MIND WOULDN'T EAT THAT? Eh?? (I have at least now stopped myself eating the copious leftovers, as her failure to eat was making me fat.)

Come tell me your tales of woe, of uneaten porridge and scorned toast soldiers, of pasta on the floor and grated cheese in the hair, never the mouth.

It's. Just. So. Frustrating.

Same with my DS 10 mos. I bought the annabel Karmel book (top 100 purees) and he was eating it until I decided to let it be a bit lumpier to get him used to it. Totally backfired. It is now a battle to get him to eat anything but yoghurt because he doesn't trust food anymore but he does know the tub that the yoghurt comes in.
Also, when there is the tiniest bit of food left at the corner of his mouth after a long fought over spoonfull he still manages to spread it behing both his ears and all through his (nearly non-existing but there all the same) hair.

Don't worry my dd is just gettimg the hang of food and she is one 13 days. She is only eating one and at the most 2 meals a day. W tried everything blw, purees. lumpy, stupid feeding games etc but one day it just clicked for her.

soremummy · 28/04/2008 19:07

typos she is on my knee. that should have been one in 13 days time

Cocobear · 28/04/2008 22:28

DH managed to get some pasta down her tonight, through a series of bribes and tricks. She does eat white rice of her own accord, one grain at a time.

Stupid question, Dee, but are you actually in Malaysia?

Soremummy, good to know your DD is getting the hang of it. I wasn't worried when she refused all food at 6 months, or 7 months, or even 8 months. But then it started seeming kinda close to a year...

I know 'food is for fun until they are one', but frankly it's not been loads of fun (for me), and she is pushing one.

Glad she ate something for your dh. As hard as it is to get my lo to eat for some reason she never refuses a yorkshire pudding at one stage we did consider buttering it with cream cheese or something to get her calorie intake up

Hey Cocobear,
I'll be in Malaysia from next month.
No idea what I will do about food there. Never know, he might actually like Malaysian food.

Found out he is more interested in finger food although not a lot actually ends up in the belly.
I have decided to stop bothering and just let him eat when he wants to eat. (and have already lasted 1 day with this method)Probably stupid but there is nothing else I can really do. And he is already heavier and taller than his brother was at a year old and his brother is a great eater.
I'll see how the finger food thing goes and other wise he's going on e-bay to keep my bloodpressure down!
