Recommendations and bibado safety?!

We’re due to start weaning in the next couple of months, what are your absolute must have items, and how many of each?

also, with the bibs that cover the whole tray (e.g Bibado), how safe are they? I’m probably overthinking, but if they were to start choking how easy is it to quickly take the bib off the tray to get baby out of the chair?

I would say it depends on what style of weaning you're going for. I've just got a pack of those plastic open cups (6 for £1.25 I think) from IKEA and a pack of their matching plastic cutlery, but I've done baby led weaning with both of mine so other than high chair and bib I've not used much else. I've also got the plates and bowls that are part of the same collection from IKEA but didn't use until they were older as eating direct from the high chair tray was easier.

I'm currently using the Bibado bibs for my second baby, I was a bit apprehensive because they're expensive but everyone seemed to be raving about them so I bought 2 and I LOVE them. I hardly ever have to clean food off the floor because everything baby eats ends up in the bib as it can't fall from their lap onto the floor and high chair tray is spotless. Easy to clean baby up after as I can clean baby's hands then roll the sleeves down and then slide the whole thing off the tray without food dropping anywhere and shake it off/wipe it down/rinse under sink or whatever. They're machine washable as well apparently. Admittedly I hadn't considered about the choking thing but it's just an elasticated strap that goes under the high chair tray, takes 1 second to just slide it out you don't have to untie or unbuckle anything so can't see it being an issue. If you really wanted to you could just not bother pulling the strap over anyway and your baby would still be well covered.

My best advice is don't buy much. I had two polar opposites. One who would happily eat purées and mushed food and another who totally refused both.

I'd buy a bowl, it's up to you if you choose one with suckers on it and a couple of spoons and some bibs but not much else just yet.

I think if you're worried about choking then I'd either do a Paediatric First Aid Course or watch this video a couple of times. Personally I think everyone should know how to help a baby who chokes as it can be rare but they can choke on bottles and purées as well as finger foods.

I have these, I would just leave the bib on the tray and take the baby out of the bib (undo the poppers and pull their arms out of the sleeves).
