What do you give your baby for breakfast?

I bought some porridge but I just noticed it has sugar in it so I am not keen to use it. I gave him a chunk of banana to eat this morning which he loved (although he chocked three times) but I don't want to give him that every day. What other things can I give him in the morning?

ds loves plum baby quinoa porridge. he won't eat normal porridge anymore

dairymoo · 21/04/2008 09:25

Mini shredded wheats soaked in a litte milk,
pancakes (you can add fruit to the mix before cooking or spread puree on top of them), yogurt & fruit...

MrsBadger · 21/04/2008 09:56

we have an hour to get out the house so dd usually only gets milk [bad mother emoticon]

flowerybeanbag · 21/04/2008 10:03

DS has toast and butter usually, sometimes mini shredded wheats or similar soaked in milk if that's what I'm having.

NoBiggy · 21/04/2008 10:09

DD is mad for weetabix at the moment. She's also very keen on porridge (I make it with half milk, half water), and used to have apricot wheats, but seems to have gone off those a bit.

She may also have toast, teacake or a piece of malt loaf if I've made some.

Proper porridge is nice, nice and cheap

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 21/04/2008 10:15

Baby porridge made up with a bit of hot moo-milk (partly for convenience, partly to get him used to cows milk) with a cold pot of fruitapura/other fruit puree to cool it down and add a burst of fruit.

or a pot of fruitapura and a pot of little stars yoghurt.

or those little ready made pots of banana porridge, with a bit of toast and marmite/a nana.

or any combination of: yoghurt, porridge, weetabix, toast, toasted bagel, hot cross bun, dry cheerios, fruit puree, tangerine, pear, strawberries, banana, plum, eggy bread, creamy porridge breakfast in a jar etc depending on how tired/willing to clean up mess I am!

biglips · 21/04/2008 10:17

i used to give my DD yoghurt and chopped up fruits and the odd toast. She was never a breakfast cereal baby as she didnt like them. Since she had turned 3, she had starting to eat cereal.

biglips · 21/04/2008 10:18

oh yes and porridge without fail!

ShowOfHands · 21/04/2008 10:22

porridge- I make my own
fruit
eggs in all forms
weetabix
toast
natural yoghurt with fruit mixed in

whatever I'm having really

Stefka · 21/04/2008 10:50

Can I just give him the porridge I eat then? He's six months. Sorry if that is a silly question - first time mum here!

Is it just rolled oats you're using?

No problem with that. No need to even sweeten it, at that age they know no better!

ShowOfHands · 21/04/2008 11:08

You can add fruit too. DD loved porridge right from the start.

Tinkjon · 21/04/2008 11:41

My DS (7 months) eats porridge but can't yet cope with rolled oats, so I just whizz them up in the food proocessor so that they are finer. You can buy oatmeal which would make it easier but I can't find it in our local Asda. Had a bit of a revelation this morning that you can bung a tbsp of oats and a few tbsps of milk in the microwave, blast it for 30 seconds and it's done. Saves on mucky saucepans which porridge sticks to!

Can I hijack and ask sparkleymummy where you get baby quinoa from? I know you can buy flaked quinoa online but are there any 3D shops which sell it? Thanks!

Pavlovthecat · 21/04/2008 11:47

weetabix, scrambled egg, toast, rachel's organic yoghurt, no sugar (sweetened with fruit juice), porridge+ fruit puree, then cooked fruit as she grew older, now has chopped up fruit.
Banana and avocado mashed/chopped up together.

HeadFairy · 21/04/2008 11:47

I give ds (7 months) ready brek with some mashed banana or grated pear in it. There's no sugar in ready brek and it's dead quick to make.

MrsMattie · 21/04/2008 11:48

I used to give my son finely milled porridge, weetabix, toast/cheese on toast, yoghurt with pureed fruit/mashed banana...

HensMum · 22/04/2008 11:50

I've only just started with the brekkie for my 6 month old but so far he's had
baby rice with fruit (apple, pear or bluberry)
mashed banana
dried fruit compote from the AK book
pureed prune and apricot.

I bought some HIPP Organic Creamy Porridge before starting weaning and before I realised that I could give him ordinary porridge from 6 months. Stupidly I didn't read the label in the shop and it was only when I got home that I realised that it is nearly 40% sugar! There's no fruit in it either so it's all added sugar. I don't mind the odd little bit of sugar but that much is just insane.

Leeeza · 22/04/2008 13:57

Ready brek or french toast with no sugar jam or weetabix mashed with half banana or toast n banana
