6month old Started Solids and now very hungry at night feed

Dear Fellow Mums,
First time mum here and LO is 6months old currently exclusively breastfed and we’re entering week 2 of starting solids.

I've noticed LO is now waking a lot more frequently in the night (every 2hrs) and getting fussier at her last evening feed before bedtime, I’m wondering if this is the solids and her tummy getting bigger?

I feel like I can’t keep up as she’s very irritated at the boob and I’m wondering now whether to start formula for her last feed, has anyone experienced anything similar?

We’re also trying to transition her from her bedside crib into her own room and cot so lots of changes atm!

Thanks in advance,

How often are you offering solids @ShayaLight?

ShayaLight · 27/07/2024 19:25

Once a day currently (in the afternoon) I’m tempted to increase this or start supplementing with a formula feed just before bed to help? The last few nights have been horrendous and I don’t know how many more of these will be sustainable 😢

Personally I wouldn't increase it at this stage as if you think they are hungry, the milk is likely to be more calorie dense than most solids you can offer.

There's a lot going on at 6 months. There's a sleep regression, you've moved her to another too and you've introduced solids.

Could you swap tomorrow to offering just once but around an hour after her first bottle do she has a the day to get over any tummy troubles before the night?

Thanks so much I can definitely try this, will offer a bottle before and then the solids. The solids are currently offered at 11am (after her first nap) but I could potentially move this to more of a breakfast time.

That’s such a good point on the milk being more calorie dense, I will try and offer her more day feeds or just before bedtime an extra bottle (and then breastfeed as usual during bedtime).

Any tips on surviving the 6 month regression 😅

Hope you're getting a bit more sleep Flowers

Thankfully the last 2 nights have been a lot better 💛
Still waking around 3 times but nothing as bad as when it was every 1-2hrs!
I’m really hoping the next few are similar or improve more.

That sounds more manageable Flowers

We had a really tricky spell with sleep at six months too. She was waking up lots in the night and seemed ravenous! It calmed down after a few weeks when she started three 'proper' meals at seven months. Not sure if it was the extra food or would have resolved itself anyway.
