Weaning and sleep

Hi, my LO has been a really bad sleeper since I’ve started weaning (only after certain foods) she is 25 weeks - would I be ok to stop it for a few weeks and start again at 7 months? Or shall I just persevere? She seems to be waking with really bad trapped wind and tummy ache . She has been waking 2/3/4 times in the night where she was sleeping through before

pear, baby rice and yoghurt seem to have been really hard for her to digest. She was ok with sweet potatoes and carrot but still did wake once with them

wny advice would be appreciated? Not sure if I am just trying to much too soon

Was babe showing signs of readiness of weaning? I'm afraid at this age sleep changes a lot anyway. Maybe speak to your health visitor?

ChateauProvence · 18/07/2024 17:11

She was showing all the signs and loves it! It just gives her tummy ache she only has one or two spoonfuls but that’s enough for her to be in pain all night. Not sure if I should just give up for a bit. The HVs are crap here tbh

When are you giving it to her? I wonder if you gave it to her at about 10 or 11am, it will have digested completely before bedtime at night

ChateauProvence · 18/07/2024 17:21

@Eccentricthesnowman i have been giving it to her for breakfast so between 9-10am and still is affecting her. I did think maybe teething but on the odd day she’s had no solids her sleep has been so much better. I don’t want to just give up as not sure when I’d start again but at the same time I am not sure if her little tummy is ready

@ChateauProvence I would give her a week off and give her tummy time to heal then start again.

ChateauProvence · 20/07/2024 09:49

Thank you @RappersNeedChapstick i think I will as she hasn’t had anything for the last 2 days and has slept 8-5am both nights

it’s hard as I don’t want to be selfish and prioritise our sleep but at the same time I don’t want her being in pain at night and she does need her sleep. Might even wait a few weeks and then go again and do more BLW

I noticed it always took a few weeks after a big introduction for his digestive system to adjust. So fruit/veg didn't do much, nor did oats. Rice/bread was a big shift. Meat was another big one. Their insides haven't seen it before, need to work out how to digest it! Gas etc massively reduced now, tummy time/rolling practice helped shift it out. Also his poos would go from looking like whatever he ate when he first started to proper adult looking brown poos at same time.

Mine never slept well, but I know common theme. Disturbed sleep at this age common due to skills also.

Mine woke a lot with gas when we first started weaning. I took note of what seemed to bother her the most and made sure to give her some days 'off' the worst culprits. She adjusted after a couple of weeks.
