Real porridge - when?

Just fed 6 mo ds yet another pasty tasteless mush (marketed as organic baby porridge). About to tuck into my own tasty oatsy milky porridge - when can I give him some of this? And ok to be made with cow's milk?

Definitely - real porridge is lovely!
DS likes it with grated apple and banana
full fat cow's milk is fine

Ah I thought that might be the case, mmm love porridge, can't wait to feed it to ds

Baby porridge is a total rip off. Why pay £1.50 for a tiny box when you can get a big bag of real porridge or ready brek for much less. My dd loves it with a bit of banana mashed into it- lovely!

ds struggled with the oats in "proper" porridge for a little while, but ready brek went down a treat. didn't even notice the milk change.

Proper normal porridge with oats and milk is fine from 6 months, and if your baby struggles with the lumps just puree it or blend up the oats first before adding the liquid.

I used to blend some dates or raisins in to give it a nice sweet taste, or mash a banana in too. It's also very nice if you add some real vanilla seeds to it.
