Lambs Liver

Have just bought some lambs liver but have no idea what to do with it!!!

I read somehwere that you can freeze it and then just grate frozen shavings into the veggies before you mush (if you mush)??

I personally hate liver, (sadly - one of the only foods that I still can't face after childhood) hence my ignorance on the matter!

What texture does it have when cooked - I can't remember? How would you introduce liver when BLW?

DS is 7months tomorrow!

Too many questions....

Grated liver sounds gross to be honest! If you hate it why are you inflicting it on your poor LO??

I wouldnt give liver tob a baby - no idea why, perhaps someone more knowledgable will be along soon..Aitch is your woman

Bit slippery for BLW I would imagine...

Apparently I loved it when I was a baby - went veggie at age 7 mind you .

There is a recipe in Annabel Karmel's book which uses chicken livers and is in the 7-9 months section. I made it for DS1 and it was yummy (he didn't think so). It is made with apples and potatoes.

Liver goes kind of soft and melts in the mouth when cooked. Mmmmmmmm.

Not sure about lamb's liver though, if it is used differently. If you get liver and bacon in a restaurant it is usually calves liver.

Melody, if I never gave my boy even half of the things I don't like then he would have a very limited diet indeed! I'm hoping he won't be a faddy eater like me.

I heard liver was a good source of iron... but yes, grated liver does sound awful!![Yuk emoticon]

Still though, i'm sure it's safe to give babies, although I did read you shouldn't give too much as it's also rich in Vitamin A which can be harmful if given in large amounts.

If nobody can suggest a good way to prepare/serve it then I think I will be binning it!!

Did a quick search on google - looks like its fine to give babies... Ds wont be getting it in this house though.... I would barf

Neney1 I reckon not liking liver doesn't make you a faddy eater ( barf)

Other good sources of iron are spinich (taste nice creamed in with mashed potatoes) dried apricots, and chick peas.

I see where you are coming from about wanting him to have a balanced and varied diet but I reckon you can do that for him without grated liver... lol even the sound of it makes me shiver... oooo imagine what it would feel like to grate. bleauhh

Fry it and give it to your cat/dog most hated enemy!!

Neney1 · 11/04/2008 17:20

Yup, I have binned it!! I deliberated for too long and now its gone off!

Will try alternatives for iron, esp as iron drops in breastmilk after 6 months.

Granny loves the stuff (yeeurgh) so think I will leave her to introduce it to him when he's a bit older!

Raisins??

No rhubarb - drains the body of iron... According to my NCT breastfeeding/pregnancy book
