Hellooo

I’ve just started weaning my little boy. He’s 6 months old. I started a few weeks ago giving him a couple of spoons of Ella’s pouches which he took quite happily.

now that he’s six months I’ve began trying different things - mashed banana ( he wasn’t a fan) omelette - he had a few bites

this morning I gave him half a weetabix mixed with his formula and he ate most of it. (I spoon fed him it) will he still require his bottle or will that be too much for his tummy?

TIA

Far too young to be thinking about dropping bottles. For now offer food between the bottles. Start with 1 meal a day and gradually build up to 3 by the time they’re about 9 months. I did breakfast first as it’s the easiest as you’re always at home. Next dinner at around 7 months to help with staying full overnight. Finally lunch.
I know you’re not there yet but once you build up to 3 meals a day it’ll look something like:
7am wake up and bottle
8am breakfast
11am bottle
12pm lunch
3pm bottle
5pm dinner
7pm bottle and bed

Around 10 months old you’ll probably find they naturally start to drop the bottles. The mid morning and mid afternoon usually go first and can be replaced by a small snack. And then at 1YO the morning and evening bottles will become cows milk in a cup.

As for the weetabix and in other meals you can use cows milk now if easier, and presuming no allergies of course!

The saying food is for fun until they're one isn't entirely accurate, but I think it's helpful to remember that at this point the purpose of weaning is to get them used to different tastes and to practice swallowing foods with a thicker consistency than milk. All of their nutrition will still be coming from milk really.
