just started weaning - how do I manage when out and about?

Hi I have just started weaning my DD and we are going out for the first time tomorrow during the time she normally has solids. I have frozen some home made purees and need to take one of these out with me to feed her with. Question is: do I defrost overnight in the fridge and then put into a container and then reheat when I get to destination or do I take with me frozen and let it defrost on the way? Do I need to reheat in either case, and will the food be ok at room temp in my bag for the 1.5 hrs it is going to take me to get to my destination? She is not quite six months yet either so do I need to sterilise feeding stuff(pots and spoons?)

Also, for future reference, when I make batches of food, how many days worth can I refrigerate rather than freeze or is it safer to simply freeze all and reheat when needed?

thanks

how old is your baby? ditto what malory said anyway. crack on with the normal food.

For god's sake make sure the top's on ok. I speak from negative experience.

I defrost before I go out in case there's no microwave. Take two spoons, if not three in case you drop it and can;t clean it.

No need to sterilise.

mash up some avocado or a ripe banana!

ruddynorah - she is 23 weeks. Thanks for all suggestions.

I've just started weaning too. When going out I take a tub of pureed fruit (either home made or brought type) and some baby rice in a pot, then mix together with some warmed milk - always somewhere to warm milk. Or even just give fruit then no need to warm.

If you've only just started weaning then I would just not bother giving her solids at that time, and give her her usual milk feeds. Then feed her solids when it's next convenient to do so.

Food at that age is more about tastes and experiences than nutrition, so if it's going to be a right faff (and it sounds it!) then I would just skip a meal.
