Is yogurt enough for baby breakfast?

With some fruit?

I've read that it's referred to as a Dessert so a bit confused.

Baby is almost 8 months and he'll have yogurt with fruit some days, Porridge sometimes and toast with peanut butter sometimes (although he socks this mainly rather than bites).

Sounds like a good breakfast if you mean plain Greek yoghurt?

Comefromaway · 28/05/2024 13:58

At 8 months I assume he is still being either bottle or breastfed so yes, a yoghurt as long as it isn;t massively sugary, will be fine.

Strawberrycheesecake7 · 28/05/2024 14:01

Yogurt with fruit is fine. Babies don’t usually eat very much especially if they’re still having breast/formula milk regularly. He’ll probably need something more substantial when he gets a bit older though.

I wish my 10 month old would eat that much! One thing I did read is that babies don't know what is a breakfast food, so if he likes carrots & chicken (for eg) he could have that for breakfast

Kazzybingbong · 30/05/2024 11:02

Food before one is just for fun! Yogurt and fruit is a perfectly acceptable breakfast at any age!

Ganthanga · 30/05/2024 11:39

Thick Greek plain yogurt is great. It's cheaper in big pots. Add a swirl of honey for sweetness.

Underestimated4 · 30/05/2024 11:41

Theres no rules or right and wrong.

All kids end up eating chicken nuggets and chips at some point 🤣

fedupandstuck · 30/05/2024 11:45

No honey for under 12 month olds, small risk of infant botulism.

Also no need to sweeten yoghurt, thick full fat Greek yoghurt is great as it is, with some fruit.

Some cultures might label yoghurt as a dessert, but plenty of others would view it as totally acceptable for a breakfast food. It's not particularly sweet if you choose the plain/natural ones.

MarvellousMonsters · 30/05/2024 17:09

Mix a teaspoon of peanut or almond butter into it for some protein healthy fat and fibre.

Josephine0 · 30/05/2024 20:27

My baby has it every morning as a late morning snack but might as well be breakfast after wasting egg and avocado on toast earlier in the morning. We do Greek yoghurt, berries, nut butter and chia.

Josephine0 · 30/05/2024 20:28

Little bit of chia mixed well to prevent choking!

Make sure this advice isn’t being given to people whose babies are under one though (like this person). Babies under 1 can’t have honey

CCLCECSC · 30/05/2024 20:57

Absolutely ok; as others have said food before 1 is just for fun.

If you wanted to try something more filling, add some crushed weetabix.

Food before one is just for fun is a myth. Food before one is actually quite important, especially as the iron stored from birth will be nearly gone by 6 months and formula/bm doesn’t hold enough on its own for what a baby needs.

Bournetilly · 31/05/2024 14:39

Absolutely fine. My son would only eat yoghurt and fruit for breakfast up until 9 months. Hes 11 months now and finally started eating/ enjoying more foods.

Coffeeismyfriend1 · 01/06/2024 11:03

My kids love yoghurt for breakfast. I buy a big tub of Greek yoghurt and add honey (after they turned 1) or jam and fruit etc. It contains much less sugar and is a lot cheaper than those tiny one aimed at young
kids. I bought little pots that I can take it out in too so they can have in packed lunches etc.

I disagree. The amount they actually eat at that age is so small and they get their nutrients from milk. I don’t believe for a second BM doesn’t have everything a baby needs.

Please by all means feel free to research it but I am right.
