12 month old won't feed herself

I need some weaning advice as I can't get my 12 month old to feed herself. She has a very good appetite and eats a wide range of foods (when spoon fed) but when I put food in front of her she picks it up, plays with it and either puts it down or drops it on the floor. When I try to guide her hand to her mouth she pulls it away. I eat with her and but it hasn't made a difference yet.

Recently I've tried putting a plate of finger food in front of her and leaving her to it but she gets upset and cross that she's not being fed. I'm not sure whether this is the right approach (I had issues around food as a teenager so I'm wary about making meals stressful for her). She has good hand control and is a pretty average baby in every other area.

I would just spoon feed her. Eventually she will get it/ want to do it herself, I wouldn't stress over it.

If you put finger food directly in her hand will she then eat it?

@CaptainCarrotsBigSword thanks for your advice- when I put food in her hand she'll play with it or throw it rather than eat it

Oh and if it helps I had a perfect, textbook baby led weaned baby in dd1.... Now she lives off chicken nuggets and chips and practically cries in the presence of green vegetables. 🙄

I'd say keep feeding her meals, and just try putting food in her hand for snacks. If she throws it, don't make a big deal or she might interpret it as a game, just pick it up and out it to one side and feed her the next bit.

You won't end up with a 6 year old who needs spoon feeding, honestly!
