There is nothing wrong with using purees to begin with! Best thing to do is cook in batches - good idea with porridge so it's ready in the morning. Brocolli yes cook up and puree and freeze the rest. You can use fancy baby weaning pots and jars or plain old freezer bags. Freeze in small portions

Didn't really answer your question - if going plain veg puree for first few weeks, batch cook, blend and then freeze in portions. Then you have lots of options ie- cook brocoli, carrots and parsnips together and blen separately and freeze if that makes sense x

You'll need to cook the broccoli I think before blending it or you'll just get broccoli crumbs. Dd used to love cooked broccoli but I just gave her whole florets and let her gnaw on it.

Buttered toast fingers
Scrambled eggs
Banana
Porridge just made with milk as usual not blended
Pancakes made with banana

Anything they can grip in their chubby little fingers and gum on is fine.

I just gave food we ate in baby appropriate format and sometimes begore I put full seasoning.
Finelly chopped/pulled chicken or fish
Overcooked carrot or banana smashed with fork
Bolognese
Pasta
Just nice food you would actualy want to eat.

And tbh I often offered half chewed food like steaks etc as this is how babies were fed for thousand of years. No one had a blender and if you breastfed she already shares immune system.

If he's full term and you've waited until he they've shown the signs of readiness, there's no need to blend oats or stick with bland foods. If you're not happy giving oats as they are, how about trying ready brek? You can make it more varied by adding mashed banana or some apple purée with a little bit of cinnamon.

I'd also be offering some finger foods to try on the side as this will help with hand/eye coordination and will also help them to develop mouth muscles that are important for speech.

The Caroline Walker Trust has a guide that contains some good, mostly easy prep, first foods here.

You'll notice though that the idea is to try and get them eating healthy family meals pretty quickly.

Only offering bland foods and sticking to one at a time was how they weaned babies years ago when the guidelines were to wean at 4 months but in reality a lot of people did it much earlier (I know if one at 6 weeks).

@AlltheFs onkt just started weaning? I thought you need to start off with puree fiod first so I’m blending the oats etc just for now

You don’t need to purée anything, research baby led weaning. DD fed herself from weaning day 1 with solid foods. Strips of toast, cooked veg in safe pieces, fruits, scrambled eggs/omelette, cheese that sort of thing.

We just reduced the salt content but otherwise she had normal family food immediately. They don’t need teeth and they love flavour. We introduced mild spice, garlic, herbs etc

The mild chicken curry and chilli from the BLW recipe book were DD’s favourite swhen she was only 6.5 months old. She still loves it now at 4.

How have you both got on today @4658Lou?
