Weaning off formula at 1

Hi all, my DD turned 1 yesterday and obviously now doesn't need formula.

She has a cows milk protein allergy and has been on nutramigen from the GP. She still has a bottle before bed and during the night, I want to switch to oat milk now in her bottle as she has that in her weetabix/mash/food but last night I gave her a small amount in a bottle, about half a kids cup but a little while later she vomited all her dinner/oat milk in her bed. She had eaten a lot yesterday plus birthday cake etc and on reflection that could have been why she was sick...also could be the oat milk?

Basically am I right to just switch it in the bottle cold turkey? I don't want her to be sick and I can't remember what I did for my DS.

Thank you!

If she had CMPA is she under a Paediatric Dietician? I think it's pretty routine to carry on with formula for LO's with CMPA for a while but I could be wrong.

You might want to think about night weaning now she's turned one too Wink

Do children with CMPA not stay on formula for longer? What sort of oat milk as non dairy milks often don't have sufficient fat and protein for that age group.

Alpro does oat and soya milks for age 1+ that are fortified. Bog standard oat milk is unlikely to have the right nutrients.

The HV lost the referral so unfortunately we are still waiting for the dietician appointment. When my son had his appointment 3 years ago dietician suggested just going straight onto oat milk, but times may have changed. HV the other day said the same too.

If its oat milk it needs to be fortified. I think oatly barista had been recommended on here before. Or use the one specifically for children.

Morning.

I tried cold turkey with my DD and she would vomit afterwards but it also gave her such sore nappies 🥺

She still likes her milk now at 20 months but I haven't had the heart to try again to swap out as her little bum was agony for her.

Thanks both. I'm definitely going to do it slowly rather than cold turkey. She likes the oat milk but I'm certainly more cautious now after the vomiting episode!

If they're happy to still prescribe I'd keep her in the formula. I think it's usually 18 months to 2 years for bs it's with CMPA Flowers
