All i can think of is fruit. Any other ideas?

Use rice milk or soya. Can you have oats? I know they have gluten in them but rice dream porridge with linseed is yummy. Put a banana and seeds on top. Or try puffed rice (kallo?). You can even make your own muesli with it. Millet flakes and Mesa sunrise flakes are also yum and good for you.

Oh, and another great thing to have in the morning is linseed and banana smoothie. Put some linseed into water the night before and in the morning you will find that it is gelatinous. Pop a banana and whatever other fruit that you like (strawberries, blueberries) and whizz it up. Lovely and thick and full of Omega 3.

whoops, just saw that this is in 'weaning'! Well, those brekky ideas are for you then.

Can you try pureed rice and fruit? I used to use rice and prunes with my two.

MrsBadger · 01/04/2008 11:37

bananas are fine and actually a pretty balanced breakfast.

is it totally no-gluten or just no-wheat? If the latter, try oatcakes or porridge pancakes.

wheat-free bread?

iwouldgoouttonight · 01/04/2008 11:43

You can buy gluten-free porridge oats, I think I got some from Tesco, so you could make that with water or soya milk. Gluten-free pitta bread is nicer than normal gluten-free bread, you could do that with some soya spread or fill with banana or other fruit.

quinoa porridge made with water - DS lapped it up with a few blueberries in it

FasterPussyCatGrrrl · 02/04/2008 08:44

thanks anyway mucha!

yes, it is gluten free, not just wheat. DS2 is just starting BLW, but not yet 6mths, so not giving gluten, dairy or egg for a while yet.

didn't know you could get gluten free oats

You can't get gf oats in the supermarkets - their GF porridge is rice and quinoa flakes (and foul). You can get guaranteed gf oats online, but they are pricey.

DS was gluten and dairy free to 10 months, then gf to a year, and he just shared my gf toast, hot cross buns or whatever I was having (I am coeliac).

MrsBadger · 02/04/2008 09:21

oh she'll be fine on fruit till 6m - how old is she now?

FasterPussyCatGrrrl · 02/04/2008 09:50

5mths and half a week. He demolished broccoli and baby corn last night.

I could give him some pear perhaps

witchandchips · 02/04/2008 09:56

sushi or sticky rice?

MrsBadger · 02/04/2008 09:59

dd loved pear - leave the skin on though else it gets too slippery to pick up

iwouldgoouttonight · 02/04/2008 10:12

Sorry I meant gluten free porridge, not oats - just looked at ours and it is made from rice and millet, from Sainsbury's. I wasn't keen on the taste but I don't like normal porridge either so I'm not the best judge!

FasterPussyCatGrrrl · 02/04/2008 10:16

i'll have a look in Sainsburys for that then, thanks.

really, I wouldn't go mad with this
a 5mo doesn't know what you're 'meant' to eat for breakfast
just give him fruit or veg
the amounts he's eating are teeny weeny

in 3wks he can have toast, oatcakes, porridge pancakes etc
