Am v.nervous first time mum and was wondering if anyone could advise me on whether it would be ok to give my 7 month old daughter ready break made with formula milk for breakfast? Advice appreciated

i used to - 6yrs ago mind!

check ingredients -it's just oats IIRC

I do! (well supermarket equivalent) There used to be a rumour that it contained salt and sugar and other stuff, but not according to the ingredients when I last checked.

Some of the sachets of "oats so simple" have a lot of sugar (e.g. golden syrup flavour) but the standard ready brek seems fairly ok. Oats plus added vitamins etc.

...I think Ready Brek has added salt so not good for a young child.
Use plain porridge oats or oatmeal (fine grade) or baby breakfast cereal.
My DD has baby breakfast by Hipp Organic with formula milk from 8 months and loved it, especially if you stir pureed fruit in it

Ready brek has NO added salt or sugar so is perfectly ok for babies over 6 months. After 6 months you can make it with full fat cows milk rather than formula too as long as the main drink remains formula (or breastmilk if you are bfing)

agree with Seona- NO added salt or sugar.

I make it with whole milk- then on the finest grater, grate apple ( the soft red skin ones- peeled-comes out like a puree mush)into it..he loves it and i feel like he is getting a little extra fruit!

i have thought of using rolled oats ( notably a box of ready break was more expensive than Jordans organic rolled oats)- but the ready break has such a smooth consistancy- it suits him a the moment.

I had exactly the same question as you a couple of weeks ago, so I spoke to my health visitor and she said to make up ready brek or weetabix and use full fat cows milk.

You know when you go in some cafes for lunch and you get a free jar of baby food? Choose a fruit one, stick it in your changing bag, then mix some of it in the morning porridge/ready brek.
I used to do this, or mash a banana in it. But both mine now prefer it absolutely plain (and DD1 likes just the dry oats in a bowl! I should buy her a nosebag...)

Thank you lovely people for your advice.
First attempt created a new form of tiling grout (I may attempt to market it in B & Q!)but it seemed ok this morning and mixed with some apricot puree, she wolfed it down.
