Thought I was cool but DP got me thinking earlier

I'm so sling it and see if it sticks, laid back Lil when it comes to lots of things and have been happily cracking on BLW with DD3, (yes 3, think I'd know by now!), but DP suddenly said, 'errr are we not going at this a bit hard and fast???' and I had a moment of self-doubt.

So she's just 6 months. had no big plans re weaning but she couldn't keep her eyes off us as we ate, then started to refuse the breast as DD1 and DD2 ate and tried to grab food off plates so I thought 'ohh have a banana love' and she took it and scoffed it! That was Monday, today is Friday. She hasn't cut down on her milk (demand b.feeding) but is having 3 'meals'a day. Breakfast today was about half a weetabix which gets almost totally eaten and then i lay strips of toast in front of her and she plays/sucks them but not much goes down, then lunch today she had some avocado, some left over bits of roast potato, half a banana and then for tea she ate quite a few whole baby carrots and some penne pasta with tom sauce.

I'm happy, she seems happy but as it's been less than a week since she started on solids does inhaling some penne seem a bit much and should she be doing the whole 3 meals with her sisters already? As I say I'm laid back, have some common sense but DP just made me think I might be being a bit slaphappy with this weaning malarky. ??????

if she's happy and you're happy then go with the flow I reckon

I thought the whole premise behind baby led weaning was that if they had the physical capability to eat something, then they had the maturity inside to manage it.
so that said she should be fine methinks?!?

p.s I am not an expert on this, so someone more knowledgeable may come and say I am wrong quite soon

Thomcat · 22/03/2008 21:07

Yeah, what I thought. Just needed a bit of reassurance, thanks.

totally agree with fingerwoman

your baby is setting the pace, next week she might have gone off for food and guzzle the breast, but for now, she is happy with what she is doing, so let her do it..

having two older sisters to copy is also probably also encouraging her, if she can pick up food, chew and swallow, then she is ready

Thomcat · 22/03/2008 21:25

Cool. Will carry on throwing things on the table in front of her and seeing what happens.

it amazes me that until 5 days ago all she'd kn own was breast milk and now she's had hummus, carrot, avocado, banana, toast, rice cakes, roast potatoes, pasta, peaches and weetabix.

Aren't babies fab
