Does this sound like a reaction to egg?

Gave my 7 month old an Ella’s kitchen pouch today (on the go I use them!).

I noticed a couple of hours later that under her chin / neck area was red and slightly inflamed. She was also being much fussier than normal and by the time I got home was inconsolable (this would’ve been 4.5 hours after giving her the pouch, she also was tired as had a rubbish nap).

I thought maybe it was the bib she was wearing… maybe she reacted to it but not sure why she wouldn’t react to other clothing items.

Then I checked the ingredients of the pouch and it contained egg which I’d not given her before… lesson learned to check before giving her pouches.

Does this sound like it could be an egg reaction?

It isn’t like a rash it’s just red, still hasn’t really gone down now.

FYI I was giving her the pouch straight onto the spoon and feeding it to her so she didn’t touch it. I guess it would’ve dribbled down her chin and neck but it didn’t go on her hands etc.

My daughter had an egg allergy. She came out in hives almost immediately.

What was in the pouch other than egg?

Red rash can be acidity in the food like tomato or citric acid and it's usually just a topical reaction i.e. causes a rash where it touches the skin but is fine to consume.

In your shoes I would lay off egg for a few days and then maybe try smearing a bit of egg white on an arm as a patch test type of thing. If that's clear after a few hours then a day or so later I'd try baked in egg (cake!) and see if that's ok. Then cooked egg.

Just seen another pouch I’ve given her had egg in it too and she was fine after that.

Maybe it was the bib…

I'm not sure. My little boy reacted more quickly to egg and it was more rash-like around the mouth the first couple of times. Later reactions included asthma and 'nettle rash' all across torso and face was blotchy red and white. He has other allergies too and avoids the necessary foods and carries an epipen now.
But I'm not sure from the reaction you describe. DS has also reacted to the chemicals in clothing. I wash new clothes before use now if they'll touch the skin directly.

Hmm she was wearing a new jumper today and I’d not washed it, I had a long sleeved vest under it but it had a frill that touched her neck and chin so might have been that!

I’m praying it goes down over night.

Acid in food caused a red rash too on my baby's skin.

My son had an egg allergy. But it was only raw egg, not cooked egg, and he avoided foods that had egg that wasn’t cooked enough, like pancakes or egg custard. I just thought he was fussy. He was diagnosed at 6 after a sip of milkshake with raw egg and he vomited everywhere. But looking back the first sign was when he was about 1 he had a meringue and all round his mouth went red. I thought it was just the sugar content had irritated his skin as he did have excema.
