Thanks Aitch and BLWers - BLW is amazing!

Just thanks really for your brilliant blog and everyone's tips and experiences on here - had never even heard of it before reading about it on MN and it has given me the confidence to have a go. Pureed for my DTs (3.4) and it broke my spirit as they spat out my lovingly made smooth mush and generally found the whole weaning thing stressy and not any fun.

DD3 is 6 months and have just started flirting with BLW - today she gummed ferociously a piece of buttered crumpet, some banana 'sticks' and some toast and cream cheese (clear favourite). I hadn't even thought she would get anything anywhere near her mouth, let alone ingest anything but I was amazed how much food was 'missing' when clearing up the fallout.

The best thing was seeing how much she enjoyed herself - perhaps because she was in control, and babies don't often have that I guess. It was also incredible how quickly, just over the course of one day, her hand-mouth co-ordination improved and she learned to use her tongue to move big bits of food to the front of her mouth when they made her gag (tiny bit nervous for a few moments there). Seeing her so happy and proud of her little self was fab.

So without wanting to be too grovelly/smarmy thanks again - I have been inspired

Good for you! I have just started BLWing my DD2 and it is even easier the second time round! Although DD1 is slightly miffed that DD2 is eating the same food as her!

Hey HHShark,

congrats! I've been doing it too though a bit chicken still (the odd puree!) but every day does bring up a new munching delight for DS3. Was amazed to see him eating toast, a pear (very ripe but he polished about half of it off), banana etc.. Less keen on broccoli and butternut squash (bit stringy but I enjoyed it!) so far but I'm hopeful...

It's brill isn't it, and they learn so quickly. I remember the first time I gave dd banana, I turned around and it was gone, searched everywhere but she had literally demolished it!

Although the high chair and her face gets messy I assumed there would be loads of mess on the floor but there is practically none.

You may have a few wobbly moments in the future (no matter how cool I promised myself I would be I still had a few moments every now and then of is she getting enough?) the blw forums are great for advice and inspiration (as is mumsnet obviously!).
