got polly chicco chair as present so using this at mo but not happy with it

back posture little one adopting bad

slouching, not at right angles and sometimes slumps sideways

shouldnt feeding baby be upright with straight back??

worried it is slowing down his sitting too as he is almost as if in push chair, slightly lieing down,on most upright position of chair

anyone else find the same??

looking here though:

www.mothercare.com/gp/node/n/44567031/026-0477856-2648429?ie=UTF8&mcb=core

none seem to have straight back...why???

We have a Tripp Trapp, and that has always made Ds sit upright and not slump - but friends conventional one did.

I think the cheapy Ikea Antilope is nice and upright too, esp with the inflatable cushion to hold a littly central.

MrsBadger · 12/03/2008 12:59

[gets on high horse]
because they're designed for spooning mush into babies too small to hold their heads up

[breathes]

get an Antilop or Tripp Trapp
anything in between is usually rubbish

dirtygertiefromnumber30 · 12/03/2008 13:11

oh the ikea highchair is DEFO the best one. I bought it because it was neat, non offensive looking, and great value.

I only realised how brilliant it it is since I started taking her to restaurants/ pubs/ other friend's homes etc and using their shite highchairs which she slips out of even when strapped in.

There's no way i would spend over £100 on a tripp trapp chair so it has to be the ikea one imo!

meep · 12/03/2008 13:14

I'm another Ikea Antilop fan (£11.99 I think) - was persuaded to try it by all the posts on MN shouting about how wonderful it was - they were right. DD has a perfectly straight back and the inflatable cushion you can by can keep them in the middle.

We have a regular high chair - when ds's were too little to support themselves for a whole mealtime, I used a cushion behind their back to help prop them up. When they were too little to prop themselves up at all, they were too young to be weaned...

Svan Highchair system, expensive, but it lasts forever and converts to an adult chair, it's the perfect height for sitting at the table with the family, it has removable machine washable covers and my dd loves it. (She is actually in a Hip Spica Cast at the moment for DDH and it works perfectly with the cast in place as it is so adjustable).

Highly recommend.

I have a Graco Tea Time and she doesn't slump at all. Plus the toys on it keep her fingers out of the food most of the time

Hulababy · 12/03/2008 20:47

Tripp Trapp is fantastic. Yes it seems expensive at £100, but we bught ours when DD was 5 months old ans DD turns 6 next month. It has been used almost daily in that time and is still in great condition - so value for money has been excellent.

How old is your little one? Is he sitting unaided? If not you might be better weaning in a little rocker chair or bumbo rather than a high chair.

Aitch · 12/03/2008 21:01

if he needs a bumbo you might just leave the weaning until he can sit up, tbh.

i second everything mrsb said.

flossish · 12/03/2008 21:06

just got a babydan one yesterday, the Mn reviews say it is a good alternative to the tripp trapp! Am happy with it so far, pick one up on ebay for about £50 brand new.

bumbly · 13/03/2008 10:07

ok 7 1/2 months old

trip trap it seems may be the best option then

thanks so much for all your advice!!!!

he really is slumping....

Aitch · 13/03/2008 11:01

seriously, if he's slumping then the antilop is better than the tripp-trapp. if you get it and later get the tripp-trapp there's no harm done cos you can keep the ikea one at a grandma's house.

bumbly · 16/03/2008 07:58

just got tripp trapp off ebay - ace!!!!!!

we have the ikea one, and it's fab! have tried a few other more expensive ones but they were no where near as good.

if you do get one don't make the mistake i did and pick up the high chair seat and a brown cardboard box which i thought contained the legs....wasn't until i got home that i realised i had a box full of 40 legs for the blimmin thing (and obviously i only needed 4!)
