6 month old just not interested in food whatsoever!

DD, until last week was EBF, has no interest in food whatsoever. Have tried BLW and purees to no avail. She has had for the past few weeks:

Baby Rice - hated it
Porridge - hated it
Weetabix - ditto
Rusk - hated it a bit less
Toast - hmm, had a crumbs worth
Pear - didn't particularly like it
Apple - ditto
Carrot - ditto
Parnisp - you get the picture

Should I not worry?

If she's only 6 months don't stress. Give her a few things each time to taste, if she leaves them, fine. It might not be that she dislikes the food, more that she just isn't interested in eating - she will!

Thanks Stealth! I am shocked more than anything as DD1 was weaned at 4 months (then the guidelines) and ate EVERYTHING I gave her! It is so frustrating but I am just going to give her finger food atm as purees just aren't cutting the mustard!

She's only 6 months, don't worry.

dd1 was interested in food (watching us eat, trying to grab it) at 5 months.

dd2 is 5 months and has no interest at all in food.

Try not to force the issue, babies develop at very different rates. She will eat when shes ready to. If she gets to 8/9 months and has no interest then I would be concerned, but at 6 months she's doing fine.

Do you sit her with you when you are eating and let her join in the social bit of eating?

StealthPolarBear · 07/03/2008 22:24

yeah and finger foods are much less hassle!
I probably shouldn't tell you this but my 10mo still eats next to nothing I'm still not getting worried though, he has plenty of milk.

WanderingTrolley · 07/03/2008 22:24

Not unusual ime.

Just go with bf and try again in a week or so.

helenelisabeth · 07/03/2008 22:29

Thanks everyone. Today I steamed some carrot sticks and gave her toast. She attempted both more than if I had pureed something but still not too bothered. I suppose she is still very young. Its just strange as 99% of babies are wolfing food by this age.

a fair amount of babies are not wolfing food at this age, and many are only just starting to be weaned! don;t worry !! Milk is enough at t he moment, and a few tastes will be enough, she will find her own pace

I had this with dd

then yesterday (6m2wks) she grabbed a piece of pizza crust off my plate in a restaurant, chewed it and swallowed half with every appearance of delight

funny buggers, babies.

CantSleepWontSleep · 07/03/2008 22:40

Blimey - definitely don't worry at 6 months! Unlike WriggleJiggle, I wouldn't even worry at 8 months. Dd hardly ate anything until I cut down her breastfeeds at 11 months. She had lots of fun throwing food on the floor though, and would sometimes go and pick bits off there throughout the day if we left it for her .

She's now 2, and eat fine most days.

i read somewhere you have to try a food up to 13 times before a baby will accept it, so i wouldn't worry. just keep trying different foods.

Aitch · 09/03/2008 19:06

i'd give up for a week and then try again, she's only 6 months, it's nothing in the scheme of things. start again, offer a bit of lovely soft fruit next time you're eating it and she's sitting on your knee. a banana, maybe?
