Any experience of tea/supper causing unsettled tummies?

I am finding that since starting to wean my 6 mo DTs their sleep is generally getting better (contrary to what I was expecting!)...except for one annoying blip...DT2 seems to be waking every evening at about 9:30pm (my DH is cuddling her now!) with what seems to be an bubbly tummy.

I am doing a combo of BLW and some spoon-feeding (so just a yogurt and banana or a bit of porridge at about 5:30pm) so they aren't eating masses (which I'm not worried about as I know milk is much more important!) but am just wondering whether anyone else has found that giving their LO something for tea has caused this sort of unsettledness?

oh gosh yes, and it's not surprising really, it must be such a shockk to their wee systems. dd started waking a lot after weaning, and MrsBadger on here (to whom i am Eternally Grateful) pointed out that maybe she wasn't getting as much milk into her tummy because she was eating too late.

so for a while we made sure that the last morsel of food she ate was no later than 4pm and it did the trick. i think we also introduced a dream feed as well around then, at about 10pm. plus, perhaps the banana is upsetting his tummy so late at night, some babies get constipated from them, so you could give them a miss and see if it helps?

good luck.

That's a really good point. I kind of assumed that as the porridge has got quinoa in it, it would be as filling, if not more, than milk. But probably not! Will switch 'tea' a little earlier...to coincide with my cuppa ...and see if that works.

Also, Aitch, I tried to register to your site and had troubles with the security question. Am I doing something wrong or is this a common problem?

TIA

surf - i have been having a similar problem with dd waking at about 11pm. thanks for starting the thread!! i will try 4pm for tea as well esp. as she is norm. grizzly then too. good luck with your dt's - mine are now 5 years old and seems like yesterday they were little babies.....

I was going to start a thread to ask this very thing! I have just started BLW, just something from my plate at evening meal for her to hold and experiment with herself. day 1 bit of banana, day 2 softened carrot sticks, and day 3 - tonight - softened carrot sticks and a sprig of brocolli. Tonight and last night she has had wind that has been a bit difficult to shift at bedtime and is taking a lot longer for her to settle to sleep in her cot (can't remember the first night even though it was only 2 days ago!). We have tea anywhere between 5 and 6.30pm so I'm a little conflicted about giving her something earlier as I loved the fact that we would all be eating the same thing at the same time with BLW. So not sure what to do except try to have tea at 5pm rather than 6.30pm. But I think the wind can probably be explained by introduction of new foods, as her wind had always been quite easy to shift prior to this.
Anyway thanks for starting the thread and good luck

Hi Tellnoone...I've followed Aich's advice and it does seem to be working...i.e. supper no later than 5pm - bit later than Aitch though. I've decided to do breakfast and lunch with me joining them, proper BLW-stylee, and then give them banana and yogurt or something along those lines for 'tea', with me munching a banana as well. I quite fancy a banana at 5ish anyway so it works for us all. Maybe you could try something similar?

No experience other than my own, but I would like to share with you that both my boys got a kind of tummy ache after eating banana, I don't know why, so they had banana in the mornings only.

Just another point of view really.

Enjoy your babies

(mine are big boys now, 8 and 5)
