I'm definitely lazy weaning - is it bad?

With my first I'd batch cook things with homemade sauces, fresh veg etc and freeze. I'd make him purées. I made him a lot of things fresh like sweetcorn fritters etc. He ate other bits too but I did but a lot of effort in.

With my second it's been very different, a lot of pouches and then mostly picky bits. Toast, breadsticks, spaghetti, ham, cheese, cucumber, peppers, watermelon etc just bits of them for him to feed himself but nothing I seem to actually make him as in cook or prepare more so than just chopping. He'll often have the crusts I chop off my eldests sandwich with some other bits for a lunch 😂

Joking aside I am actually feeling a bit guilty about it. Is this quite bad? He's not even tried things with sauces on like spag bol, pasta bakes, cottage pies etc because I don't have time to bath him and clean the mess up three times a day like I did the first time around!

Sounds perfectly normal for DC2, I've heard that DC3 usually gets weaned by fighting the dog for bits the other DC have dropped Grin

Nothing wrong with just giving him suitable bits of the family food without lots of special separate cooking. How old is he? At some point it would be good to brave the pasta bakes and cottage pie family meal type things, but if he's only just started, there's no rush. Can you time it so there are days when he has a bath straight after dinner/tea anyway, and then you can do messy foods then without an extra bath?

DD2 and I shared a bowl for cereal/porridge for quite awhile because I couldn't face her attempts to feed herself such things that early in the day. And I'm a morning person.

My standards of weening has drastically lowered with each child. 🤣🤣

I find Little Dishes are great. DD2 loves them and they do a wide range of different types: fish pie, spaghetti bolognese, curry…

DD1 is the fussiest eater ever and was weened on purées. DD2 is a lot less fussy and did BLW. DC3 due in April so will see how weaning goes in October next year. 😂

I wouldn't think there's anything wrong, you're obviously juggling much more this time round. We've adapted the way we cook and just use low sodium stock cubes so I just make batch meals to do us through the week and blend/mash a portion of it for ds. Then I'm not making him anything different than what I'd be making anyways?

That’s not lazy, just give him what you’re eating , babies don’t need special meals apart from low salt, just add salt for the adults separately. Pouches are very expensive and most class as ultra processed.
