How do I get baby to take a bottle?! Sleep-deprived and struggling.

Initially baby (who is now 10 weeks) was on bottles, and took them no problem as she wouldn't latch to me. So I was pumping and dispensing into tommee tippee, aptimel bottles (the little ones you get). After a lot of persistence, I managed to get her to latch and she has been semi-successfully breastfeeding. She pulls away often - I have an oversupply and fast slow (it sprays out even if I've pumped for ages before). It's been a stressful 7.5 weeks but I don't think I can continue breastfeeding. She's up all night feeding and I can't leave her with anyone else, and I am struggling without my usual medication.

She will take most of a bottle when she wakes up after a long nap but that's about it. She screams and cries whenever I try when she's hungry during the day so I end up breastfeeding her. Had the most success with the Lasinoh ones and have ordered a miimjumi bottle to try (this will be the 4th type).

Any tips?

How much is she taking from the bottle? BF babies take around 25 Felix in 24 hours, so if she usually feeds every 2 hours, taking one or two ounces is really good. You can expect her to take a big bottle like a FF baby would because she's just not used to drinking that amount of milk.

I'd choose one feed for now and swap that one over. Once you've successfully done that choose another and keep going until she's fully FF.

The usual advice is to drop one feed every two weeks. This gives her time to get used to the additional volume of milk she'll need to do and reduces your chances of mastitis.

If you call one of the BFing Helplines, a BFC will be able to help you come up with a plan to stop BFing Wink

Have you got a dp/dh/anyone else who can feed her

If you are trying to give her a bottle when holding here she can smell breast milk and it will confuse her

If someone else does it a few times it will help

And drop the feeds one by one gradually over 2-3 weeks to make it less painful for you
