Highchair e? - Cheap, easy to clean and transport.

Washersaurus · 28/02/2008 15:22

Wouldn't bother with the East Coast ones TBH. We have a Tripp Trapp for DS1 and one of those cheap Ikea Antilopones for BLW DS2 (we don't have as much money for fancy chairs these days ). They are both excellent and practical highchairs.

MrsBadger · 28/02/2008 15:25

either tripp trapp or antilop

there is no middle ground imo

LilRedWG · 28/02/2008 15:26

Antilop all the way!

hana · 28/02/2008 15:26

we also have the triptrapp ( 2 infact!) and the cheapy Ikea one. they are both fab. dd1 - who is 6 - still uses the tripp trapp, and our 3 year old. baby goes in it to with a harness when dd1 is at school. lots of threads on this and these 2 compe out tops every time

CristinaTheAstonishing · 28/02/2008 15:27

There's one on the NCT sales website for £30 which I quite fancy for dd2.

morningglory · 28/02/2008 15:32

Tripp Trap, no question. I have one for DS1 (4), and I have already purchased one for DS2 (3 weeks). Grows with child, and allows baby to eat with the family.

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 28/02/2008 15:34

We never had highchairs, just booster seats at the kitchen or dining table.

And btw feck fecking development checks.

hermykne · 28/02/2008 15:34

not the nano from bloom - the feetr are so wide you ll trip over them in the kitchn.

hermykne · 28/02/2008 15:35

we had a plastci one from mothercare in tourquiose , it was great - dh power hosed it every once in a while , when the food really got stuck in the crack. dont thin you could do that with a wooden one? should you wish to

TillyScoutsmum · 28/02/2008 15:38

My dd sounds similar and wasn't doing any of those things at her 8 month check (she's still not pulling herself up or crawling and she's 10 months now)

We ordered the Tripp Trapp and couldn't use it because she was very wobbly when sitting up. She just used to sway around and therefore any carefully aimed spoonful of food usually ended up somewhere other than her mouth...

It looks lovely though - sat there, unused and brand spanking new in the corner of the kitchen

Washersaurus · 28/02/2008 15:42

Tilly - you could always send it to me . We feel ever so guilty about DS2 not getting one for himself, but just can't afford one for him.

AitchTwoOh · 28/02/2008 15:51

my dd wasn't pulling herself up at 8 months that i recall, that seems very early. and she was aaaaaages before she said mama or dada in any useful way. she's 2 now, and in charge of her entire nursery class full of 3 year olds, so i wouldn't worry.
i agree with mrsb and the rest. tripp-trapp or antilop, no middle ground. we had the antilop, it's utterly fabulous, so easy to clean.

gerbo · 28/02/2008 18:00

Antilop, without a doubt. Love the highchair, if not so keen on the baby refusing food in it. Hmm.

gerbo · 28/02/2008 18:02

Oh and just read your bit about development - my dd's exactly the same but she's 10 months now and just about started to sit up and also commando crawl when some contemporaries are taking steps. Who cares - they all get there in their own speed. Someone told me once they're all pre-programmed (genetics and whatnot) to do what they're going to do physically when they're going to do it, and there's nothing we can do about it, which I found quite comforting.

Hulababy · 28/02/2008 18:05

We have a Trpp Trapp. Got it when DD was 5 months od and used it almost daily ever since. Dd is still using it, as a chair now either at the table or the computer, and sheis almost 6yo. Yes, was a tad expensive at the time but it has seem lots of use so definitely fab value for money. very easy to keep clean - just a wipe down needed - ours still looks in grea condition. Oh, and it looks good too

BoysOnToast · 28/02/2008 18:09

290 quid??? for d

just play with her

I used to sit dd up by holding her hands and pulling her upright
sit her between your legs on the floor, hold her hands and do 'row row row the boat'

sitting her up and putting a really interesting toy by her feet might encourage her to lean forward and look at it, which'll help her balance

lots of time rolling around on the floor, not sat in bouncer / walker / higchhair etc is good for 'em

AitchTwoOh · 28/02/2008 20:06

again, i'm with mrs b. imo those rockers/bumbos/baby seats, much as they can be a godsend, are not as good as a blanket on the floor for development.

milkgoddess · 28/02/2008 20:26

thanks for the tips i do all that and dd is always on the floor rolling, shes bloody good at that though!lol

and she loves row row row your boat i sit her on my lap facing me in the nursing chair and she lol bless her

Hi

I'm a first time mum and new to mumsnet so hello all, I have been reading all your comments re high chairs, I am looking for one for my son who is six months. Any other comments on the nano bloom, as I was thinking of getting one, it looks nice and stylish, however is it user friendly. There are no reviews on it as yet.

Thanks

msappropriate · 01/04/2008 18:18

having tried hundred of high chairs in cafes/restaurants/other peoples homes and bought 2 I have to say the ikea antelope is the best and the cheapest. It can have a table or not. I really like tables as both mine could be entertained whilst I was cooking or something by putting some water on it and having a splash. You can get an infaltable cushion if they are not sitting up properly
