Porridge for tea?

DD is only six months so we aren’t very far along with weaning, but we’re onto two meals a day (well, breakfast and a first taste of something new at lunch) and she is loving it. She sleeps so well for her first nap after her porridge, and I was wondering if there is any harm in flipping her meals so she has porridge at the end of the day instead?

I was thinking that her three meal days could have something protein heavy for breakfast (Greek yoghurt, eggs etc) rather than just toast or cereal, a proper meal for lunch, and then porridge for tea. As long as she gets a balance of nutrients, is there any harm in swapping things round?

No harm in that at all. My toddler often has weetabix for lunch or evening meal.
the other day had curry for breakfast 😂

I read somewhere recently that even for children who are older that porridge is good before bed as its a slow release energy.

As long as you're child is getting the nutrients they need then i think you're good to do what suits your baby and family best.

No harm at all. I have a 3 and 4 year old. They still have porridge for dinner. Usually, I put chopped apple and blueberries in it or grated carrots and raisins. They prefer the main meal at lunch time. Although, the eldest is going to start reception so I'll have to see in September because I'm not sure if she'll eat much at school.

When my DC were weaning (30 years ago), we started weaning at 3/4 months as was advised then. We started on baby rice, just a spoonful or 2 each feed before milk. They loved it, but from what I remember it was high in sugar, so that’s why. They definitely slept better having some puréed food along with last feed. I don’t know why weaning has changed to 6 months, my 2 weren’t big babies, but were certainly ready for weaning at 4 months old.

Thanks everyone.

I couldn’t see why it would be wrong, but I’m so scared of hurting DD/giving her food issues.

Porridge for tea is perfectly acceptable. Just wanted to add that the NHS guidelines are to aim for 3 meals between 8 and 9 months so there's no rush Wink

Thanks - always a good reminder. She’s never been keen on her milk so I’m anxious to capitalise on foods she enjoy and make it work for us as much as possible.
