Can I give 9 month old fish and yoghurt for lunch?

Hey guys! I was going to give my 9 month old DS fish fingers, mash and veggies for lunch today and I was wondering if it’s okay for him to have a fromage frais after his lunch? He only has these like once or twice a week, not everyday. Is it okay to give baby yoghurt after fish or should I wait a few hours?

It's fine. Out of curiosity, why would you think it wasn't?

Diddykong · 28/07/2023 12:26

I have no idea why the fish and yogurt combo would be remotely problematic. I'd probably try to reduce sugar but the concept of a yogurt+fish meal is fine.

UndercoverCop · 28/07/2023 12:27

I'm not sure why you wouldn't? DS has eaten kedgeree from a very young age, fish, eggs, rice, garlic, onion, peas, spices etc and I serve that with homemade raita which is made with yogurt, so he eats fish and yoghurt in the same mouthful.

I wouldn’t have done because of the iron in the fish and not wanting to compromise its uptake by giving dairy, but my baby was premature. Is the iron the reason you want to avoid dairy?

Why not? i wouldn't give those fromage frais though, packed with sugar. Give natural yoghurt with some actual fruit chopped in

So many of my friends and also relatives have said that you shouldn’t eat fish and yoghurt/dairy together, I’ve always thought this is weird! Thanks so much guys ❤️

Definitely agree with this, I only ever gave them plain natural yoghurt as that’s what I eat and even years later I am glad I did

Agree. Plain greek style yogurt in our house!

Are these people Jewish? Some who keep kosher won’t mix fish and dairy as well as meat and dairy.

If you don’t follow that dietary restriction then crack on. Sounds like a very normal kids meal to me.

Poppins2016 · 28/07/2023 12:45

I wouldn't think twice about that combination! 🙂

I was wondering if they were Jewish too. Being Kosher or not limiting the iron uptake are the only two reasons I could see for this.

Hope he enjoyed his lunch Wink

It's fine just not fromage frais /petit filou

Loaded with sugar

Go with plain greek yog

Just checked and Petit Filous gave 8 grams of sugar per pot.

I'd definitely give those a swerve like other posters are saying. Maybe offer plain yoghurt and some berries?
