Just given my 13mo skimmed milk, have I poisoned him?

It got to his bedtime and I suddenly realised we were out of full fat, so gave him skimmed for his bed time drink. Now, as I understand it skimmed isn't harmful to them per se, just doesn't contain enough nutrients etc so shouldn't normally be given as a drink. But on the basis that he had 8oz full fat milk at breakfast plus cheese portion and fromage frais during the day, he had probably already hit his milk quota for the day before it even got to bedtime... please reassure me that I'm right? (Have no intention of giving it on a regular basis btw, just checking that as an emergency measure it's not actually harmful and is better than nothing).

good lord i assume you are taking the piss with thread title????!

of course there's no problem with it. there's nothing harmful in skimmed milk, it's just lacking in the fats that children need

as a one-off it will make not a jot of difference

Olihan · 25/02/2008 20:08

No, it's fine. They just need the fat in it. I don't think it can do him any harm at all as a one off.

Well yes, tbf was exaggerating for dramatic effect Tutter. But had the warnings in my head "skimmed milk should never be used as a drink for children under [3 or whatever]" and suddenly panicked and thought there might be some other reason other than it doesn't contain as much milky goodness as full fat.
Thanks.

Ity 's not a "never" , just not suitable as a regular drink. Presumably he has eaten and drunk normally throughout the day ?

Jacksmybaby · 25/02/2008 20:33

He has, LIZS. Yep, you've all confirmed what I thought/hoped was the case, sorry for temporary loss of senses!
