Just discovered this, it's a snack trap, it's great. Haven't had a chance to use it yet as I guess DD is touch too young to appreciate it (8 mo). But just thought I'd share as it seems genius

Oh that's a great idea! You should only use it when you're at home though! I never give my toddler anything in the car, not just because of the mess but WHAT would happen if they choked on something and you were in the fast lane?! OMG it just doesn't bear thinking about.

Sorry if you think I'm over cautious but I have discussed this with many friends who think it's absolutely fine to do and I am still reminding DH not to do it!

we absolutely love ours

dd is nearly 18 months and we've taken it everywhere since she was about 10/11 months.

we've bought about 6 for friends wee ones!

bigger mothercare stores stock them

(have to say both my wee ones eat in the car A LOT and i'd never worried about the choking risk...)

Seona1973 · 24/02/2008 20:14

my lo's also eat stuff in the car and havent had a choking incident. I have a snack trap hiding in the cupboard from when dd was younger - must rake it out for my 16 month old soon.

LardyMardyDaisyBoo · 24/02/2008 20:22

how does the lid work? does only one of the segments lift up

I'm sure my very messy little madam would still be able to shake the food all over the place; she shakes her tommee tippee "spill proof" sippy cup unil she gets a spray of liquid going everywhere.

like riojalover, I was too scared to let DS eat in the car when it was moving and will be te same with DD.

ChirpyGirl · 24/02/2008 20:45

A friend has one and they are good, but not failsafe, all the plastic flaps are really flexible, which means little fingers can lift one flap up and tip it upside down if they really want to.
Plus when their hand is in, if they then turn it it goes everywhere..

I like the new Bacofoil bags, they are like crisp packets with animals on the front and are about 2 quid for 20, I put popcorn or cereal in them and DD thinks she is getting crisps...and then I wash them out and reuse them!

LardyMardyDaisyBoo · 24/02/2008 21:46

good idea chirpygirl......

My DD would just eat the bag

FourPlusOne · 24/02/2008 21:52

They look good but a sure that mine would manage to get the flap up and tip it everywhere! Don't let them eat in the car either, only if DH is there too, so someone can keep an eye on them. Can't even see both of them in the rear view mirror so am paranoid that something awful is happening to DC2!

LardyMardyDaisyBoo · 24/02/2008 21:53

fourplusone...a bit of an aside, but I got a wee mirror in mothercare that you stick above your rear view mirror. I can see both DCs in it quite easily

BumperliciousIsOneHotMother · 24/02/2008 21:59

Daisy the lid is like cut into segments so you can put your hand in and pull stuff out but stuff can't fall through it when the child is waving it around (in theory anyway). I probably wouldn't use it in the car anyway, but maybe out and about in the pushchair.
