Was going to give lo some bread, I make mine but recipe has quite a lot of sugar in. I know this is needed for yeast to react to but wonder if anyone else makes their own bread and what they do about levels of sugar??

How much sugar does your recipe use?

Scubes · 23/02/2008 15:29

About 12 gms I think - it's measured in silly spoon that comes with breadmaker, will check amount properly later.

Does anyone know how much is generally found in bread?

you don't need to add any sugar if you're bothered, the starch in the flour is good enough for the yeast IME. The sugar seems to mainly affect the crust, you need to experiment a bit.

You can use honey if you feel any better about that.

There is not enough sugar in bread to make the tiny amount of bread your child will actually swallow worth worrying about, IMHO
