Breakfast Ideas for a 7mo

PinkPussyCat · 19/02/2008 14:20

We have become stuck in a bit of a 'porridge rut' - started weaning at 6mo, going really well but have been on porridge in the mornings for just over a month now! We've made it with all sorts of different fruits, but I feel we're needing some new ideas now.

Ds has never had any 'boxed' cereals and whilst I am not opposed to them I am aware they tend to have salt added. I don't mind making stuff myself, any advice would be gratefully received!

Weetabix is lower in salt and sugr than other cereals and ds loved that at 7 mths.

Thanks NTT

you can buy hipp baby weetabix in sainsbury's which is lower in salt than standard weetabix.

and we often have just fruit and plain yogurt or toast with unslated butter.

breakfast is the trickiest meal of the day I think

PinkPussyCat · 19/02/2008 15:06

yes I agree it seems to be the hardest to vary! Not tried ds with toast yet, will give it a a go

toast is great - you can spread fruit and veg purees thinly on it for extra nutrition. i fondly remember giving my dds toast when they were teeny and them sucking on it

MrsBadger · 19/02/2008 15:57

tbh I don't think you need to kill yourself varying breakfast unless they let you know they are fed up

I have porridge almost every day...

PinkPussyCat · 19/02/2008 16:32

I must admit I am a big porridge fan too MrsB, and would happily eat it daily

Just after a few alternatives for when/if he does get fed up with it!

I vary between Hipp Banana Porridge and the new(ish) Cow & Gate breakfast cereals - none of which have added sugar. There are ones with little rice-crispies or cornflakes in (though possibly not suitable yet for a 7 month old).

mejon · 19/02/2008 16:33

Oops - you were concerned about added salt. Neither of the ones I've mentioned above have added salt either!

nappyaddict · 19/02/2008 16:33

here are some examples of what we eat for breakfast:

porridge pancakes
shredded wheat
eggy bread
crumpets
toast with cream cheese
greek yoghurt
boiled egg with soldiers
scrambled egg
poached egg
omelette
bagel with cream cheese
pancakes
croissants
potato waffles
hash browns
sausage
sausage and egg mayo sarnies

PinkPussyCat · 19/02/2008 16:49

nappyaddict I am starving now after reading through that little lot!

DH would add cocopops and cocoshreddies to that list grrrr.....

lulu25 · 23/02/2008 07:02

shredded wheat is the best

don't let daddy buy them though or you will end up with yucky apricot ones that get spat all over the floor

Mumcentreplus · 23/02/2008 07:32

have you tried different types of Porridge?

for example Cornmeal porridge with a sprinkle of nutmeg/cinnamon or Cream of Wheat porridge my DDs love it!

PinkPussyCat · 24/02/2008 14:25

Ooh can you tell me more about your 'cream of wheat porridge' please? Ta
