My baby won’t eat any cereal

We’re one month into weaning and my baby won’t eat weetabix, porridge or rusk. What else could I try her with for breakfast? She’s got a milk allergy and is on neocate and she doesn’t seem to like the cereals mixed with her milk (they do smell horrible to be honest). She’s great at lunch and dinner and will eat vegetables and fruits. I’m at a loss with what to give her for breakfast, I’m worried about choking with toast

Sensible baby, cereals are not particularly healthy.

OK I'm an adult so this is different for me, I'm also type 2 diabetic so I low carb.

My breakfasts are generally egg.

Scrambled (you don't need milk, add a dash of water to make them lighter) poached, boiled, omelets, microwaved in a ramekin, occasionally fried, sometimes baked inside an avocado.

When I don't have eggs I often have ham and cheese, yoghurt, nuts occasionally bacon or sausages.

Very occasionally I have fish.

Sometimes I have hummus either with cheese or with veg to dip in.

Before the T2D I would also have fruit.

Respectfully what you eat as an adult with T2D following a low carb diet is not a particularly useful comparison with a weaning baby. Your suggestions are valid as alternatives but I don’t think bashing cereal for being unhealthy is relevant. She’s not feeding the baby coco pops.

Yes she is, she’s had two appointments so far and her next appointment is in July. They haven’t been particularly helpful, both times we was due to go they changed the appointments last minute to telephone appointments instead and then asked me to weigh her myself on my scales. They’ve promised they’ll see her in person next time xx

I've got CMPA abs would never eat cereal with milk on as a child.

We like these berry pancakes made with Almond Milk. You could all have them at the weekend or you can freeze them in batches for her.

Another favourite here is mashed avocado on toast.

Babies usually like Banana-cado too Wink

This looks fab thank you!! Ohhh she loves banana and avocado mixed together! I’m going to try her with toast at the weekend when my partner is at home, I’ll feel a bit better not being on my own the first time I give it to her then 😊 she’s moving on to more lumpy food now but just won’t eat the cereals! It must be the taste rather than the texture x

I'd just feed her whatever you normally give at lunch - or try her on something like scrambled eggs if you really want to make it 'breakfast' specific. Or have you tried making porridge but with water instead of milk?

Yes I was making her readybrek with water, she didn’t like it with water or with her milk. I think I’ll try making it with oat milk so it’s more creamy and maybe adding some fruit purée and see if that makes a difference x

Try making the cereal with soya, almond, oat or whatever milk instead. She doesn’t need the formula in food.

Try not to worry about choking with toast. Sure, be aware of the risk but don’t avoid giving it to her for that reason alone. Do some first aid stuff so you know what to do but she will be fine. She might gag but gagging is not choking. Many many babies are weaned on mostly finger foods - look up baby led weaning. Your fear of choking could mean you end up with a toddler who only eats mush or puree which is not a battle you want.

I think I will make it with oat milk and see if she likes it any better then. Thank you x

DD used to love 'banana pancakes' which was a recipe I got off of a low carb website, it's more banana omelette 8n taste but babies really like the sweet/savoury combo.

Just mash a banana, add an egg, stir and fry in little dollops. Easy to eat as finger foods and you can let them go cold for snacking later.

Isn't oatmilk just.... The water from it soaking in porridge oats?

Honestly just give her any food, why are you so keen to have her eating cereal?

I give my little one avocado for breakfast. Sometimes tinned sardines.

Eggs are also a great option but if you haven't tried them yet be careful because they're a top allergen, so only do a little to start and start with hard boiled eggs not scrambled as suggested.

Toast with nut butter/avocado
pancakes
oatly yoghurt
fruit
Eggs
My youngest doesn’t eat cereal and my eldest rarely does. Both had cmpa but have outgrown it now.
