Baby allergic to potato?

My 8 month old had a tiny bit of mash potato off the end of my finger just to try. My dad made and it he put butter and milk in there. A few hours later she was napping on me and I noticed she had a small red rash on her cheek with some raised bumps.

she has had yoghurt and cheese and she has coke and gate formula. So it can’t be the milk or butter.
when can I try her with potato again? I wanted to try her with sweet potato but I’m not sure if that would be the same as normal potato?

The main thing to remember when weaning is that it needs to be as low pressure and low stress as possible.

If baby senses you are wound up, anxious, desperate for them to eat they aren’t going to eat. They are going to become fearful and anxious themselves and not want to engage.

My first didn’t eat more than a bite or two of anything (sometimes not even that) until she was 13 months. Then she literally just picked up cutlery and started eating.

It is not your job to make your child eat. Ever. Even when they’re toddlers. It is your job to offer and allow them to go with their own bodies.

If they throw it on the floor, not a problem (this isn’t naughty and they shouldn’t be told off for it). If they play with it, not a problem (food exploration and play actually encourages eating). If they don’t eat anything, not a problem. Just try again later.

No pressure, no stress, and they’ll pick it up eventually. But if she senses you’re worried about gagging, choking, allergies or that she’s not eating, she won’t engage.

If they’re accusing me of ONLY giving my baby bits of food then they deserve that response. As if I’m depriving my child of food.

they read my post and some how came to the conclusion I feed her little bits of food off my finger and don’t give her anything else LOL I hate people on here

Calm down dear.

no ones ‘accusing you’ of anything 😂

It could theoretically be an allergy but it doesn't seem that likely. Does your DC have any other allergies? That would make it more likely.

I'd been inclined to think that a chemical has irritated their skin. Or that it was red from pushing their cup against their mouth or something innocuous like that.

You do realise an allergic reaction can take place hours or even days after contact with a contagion? The small red rash could have been anything. Was there any vomiting, diarrhoea, wheezing????

Cheese, yoghurt, milk etc all contain dairy, but you don't seem to understand the difference in terms of potential allergy/intolerance and lactose- the sugar in dairy which some people cannot process.

Butter is just churned cream and milk (unless raw) is pasturised, whereas cheese and yoghurt are different. Hard cheeses like cheddar and parmesan and yoghurts contains less lactose than butter and milk and are easier to digest in those intolerant to it. Your child may still have a lactose intolerance, despite you saying she has had yoghurt and cheese before.

Have a re-read of the posts OP and what people have actually said, as opposed to what you 'think' they have said! You have come across as being incredibly rude. I assume this is your 1st child, you may have had a lack of sleep and are worried. Best of luck.

If she’s 8 months old why is she only trying tiny bits of food off your finger? Confused

There was no need for this post making out op was doing something really stupid. It was obviously going to annoy the op, who was just hoping to get advice.

But the child has formula so a lactose intolerance would have shown up from that way before a small amount of mashed potato
