Should I stop weaning?

My DD is 6 months old (27 weeks) and we started weaning a few days ago as she was showing all the signs of readiness. So far we have been trying something once, sometimes twice a day.....a mixture of spoon feeding and finger foods. I'm wondering if she is actually ready as she is mostly pushing things out with her tongue and/or gagging. Although she can sit with 'minimal support' she does end up leaning in her highchair (white ikea one)....should she be able to sit upright for the duration of the meal? She seems to enjoy being in the highchair and playing with the foods. She will put foods to her mouth and open her mouth for the spoon (but will just suck a bit off, gagg and push it out with her tongue). Should we carry on, taking things slowly....or stop and trying again in a week or 2??

You can get inserts for the highchair. I'd continue slowly and let her practise

Developing her gag reflex is a huge part of weaning and it's essential, it doesn't mean stop.

Also, pushing the food out with her tongue is normal, make sure you're sticking to one simple flavour at a time to begin with. Highly recommend Wean in 15 by Joe Wicks & SR Nutrition if you're on Instagram

Sorry but there is no need to stick with one simple flavour at a time when weaning at 6 months. Feed her what you like OP as long as you're not offering anything from the foods to avoid list.

I'd buy the insert that the PP suggested and just keep offering the food. At this stage it really doesn't matter if she eats it or not, just look on it as playtime and let her have sobs fun Wink

‘Enjoying being in the highchair and playing with food’ is pretty much what you’re after at this stage. Weaning is just as much about learning to appreciate food and joining in with the family as it is about nutrition.

I’d keep doing what you’re doing!

OK thanks for the reassurance all! 🙂 I'll keep at it. I remember with my eldest DD she took to it straight away....but they're all different I guess.
