7 month old constipation

My 7 month old is constipated, i started to notice it a few days after I began weaning her. I was giving her the Ella's kitchen savoury pouches & fruit pouches. I've tried prune pouches, they haven't worked. So I've bought fresh apples/peaches & pairs and I'm going to blend & freeze that, as I've heard fruits beginning with p are all meant to be good for constipation. She's been trying to go for 5 days now, straining, and nothing.
Will gripe water help? I'm also going to blend her fresh savoury food like spinach, butternut squash etc, instead of pouches. Thanks.

Forgot to mention she's EBF

Take her to the doctors to get some proper medication if she hasn’t gone by day 7. You don’t want her to become impacted and it’s more common than you think.

also let her have nappy off time for an hour or so now and again. The air helps sometimes. Also try a belly massage in clockwise circles with lots of oils x

How often are you offering food @OooohAhhhh?

Sleepygrumpyandnothappy · 21/03/2023 18:41

Are you offering her water along with her meals? DS struggled when he started solids and I had to offer a lot more water than I expected. Five days would concern me tbh.

Also, if the home made purees are a bit thick, add some water.

My son had this too from an earlier age maybe 4 months we got prescribed lactulose, which is really mild. You can get it cheaply over the counter, so it might be worth just talking to a pharmacist first.

Is he under the Allergy Clinic @OooohAhhhh? Just wondering if he's reacting to one of the ingredients in the Neocate?

She is a nightmare and won't take to a bottle, as she is EBF. So I struggle to get water into her, I was using a calpol syringe but even then most of it would just drip out. She doesn't suck from the sippy cup.
I've started giving her water from a tea spoon, which is working quite well.

Well she pooped on Saturday, but she was i pain & it was hard & big, she hasn't been since.
I've since been feeding her wheat & barley baby porridge (sma boxed one, quite expensive)
And I bought a good blender, so I've been giving her spinach, broccoli & fruits like apple. pears etc with extra water puréed up.
Dr prescribed cosmocol laxative sachets, but they haven't worked yet.

I'd try a couple of things. Offer food just once a day for a couloir of days, preferably in the morning. You can still offer a variety of foods, you don't have to limit it to breakfast foods.

Water rich foods foods might help like water melon, cucumber, strawberries, jelly and blueberries.

Try to stay away from foods like rice, sweet potato and eggs and banana for a couple of days too.

You can make up the missing solids with an extra BF which should help with the pooing.

I'd also try water in an open or free flowing cup.

Oh bless her. In that case I think lack of water will definitely be a big factor here. I’d work on anyway you can find to get some into her.

Just an update, or for anyone who happens to come across this thread & is in the same position.

Dr prescribed lactulose which worked, but I don't need it anymore.
I changed her diet to a fibre rich diet, and I've ditched the pouches.
I blend everything now & I've been giving her things like pears, apples, prunes, broccoli, spinach, pasta, porridge & real bran from Holland & Barrett. All of this plus extra water added to her meals, & it seems to have done the trick. I'm going to start giving her other food but adding spinach to it etc so she's still getting the fibre.
