weight gain since starting weaning

I've been exclusively pumping for the last 6 months (due to latch issues at the start) and in the last 3 weeks I've reduced the number of pumps a day (from 6 to 3) as my baby has taken to solids really well and frankly I'm exhausted from pumping! But what has REALLY surprised me is that I've gained weight since beginning weaning. I knew there could be a hormonal shift with weaning, but still it's really demoralising to see the number on the scales go up. Anyone had a similar experience? And what can I expect once I wean fully? (I know every woman is different but keen to hear your experiences)

Just to add an update- the number on the scales has gone up and stayed on exactly the same place for about 5 weeks! Is it ever going to shift??

Yes it's because you were using loads of calories on more milk production and this slows down as you reduce feeds.
It can be harder to then lose weight as your body holds on to ensure you have enough to make milk. I'm still feeding at 13 months.

I find it easier to use measurements rather then the scales so even though I've pretty much stayed the same weight my measurements have dropped if that makes sense?

It does mean also becoming more conscious of what your eating again which I didn't have to do first 6 months of breastfeeding!

Get a tape measure out and do bust, waist, hip etc and make a note.
If you are going to limit calorie intake don't drop below 1500 as you risk affecting supply
