11 month old constant wet runny poos

Sorry if TMI, my 11 ds has a very hearty appetite and loves his goods. We weaned him from 6 months with no problem and he is formula fed - again no issues

For the last few weeks he has had persistent diarreah and wet/runny poos that explode eithe rip his back or down his legs. I don't remember the last time we went a day without putting him in the shower. I called the HV and she suggested we were feeding him too much with his formula so we agreed to cut it down, it worked for 2-3 days and now we are back to the wet explosives again.

What do I do? Has anyone else experienced this? Does it sound like an allergy?

Has he been poorly recently? Sometimes after a stomach bug they can develop a temporary lactose intolerance. Currently going through it with our 10 month old, he's been off all lactose for around 6 weeks to allow his tummy to heal and we're about to start the milk ladder to get him back on it. Due to the length of time your gp should do tests on stool samples.

How much fruit does he eat? We had to seriously restrict DS1's fruit consumption to solidify things.

Google toddler diarrhoea. We had to limit fibre - stopped giving him weetabix and gave porridge instead as we didn’t want to limit fruit and other things he enjoyed. Worked a treat

We went through this when my dd was 9 months! It was awful and it was just as we went away too so was a total nightmare but it lasted weeks and drove me insane as we were having to change her clothes several times a day.

Try to stick to the BRAT diet as much as possible but do you know what solved it for us? She went to my sister for the weekend who gave her a loads of Ella puffs. Lol. Firmed everything up and haven't had any issues since!

Is he on follow on milk by any chance? How much milk does he have?

rootsandwings89 · 17/02/2023 12:07

He already had Ella puffs, loves them lol!

He is on Hipp organic 2 (the follow on milk)

He doesn't really eat that much weetabix and we have cut back on fruit. I hadn't heard of the BRAT diet but will look into it

Yes he is on follow on milk. He has 6 oz in the morning and 6 oz before bed and night time. Then we give him a cup of cows milk around lunch time plus his 3 meals and any snacks he has x

It does sound like a food allergen/intolerance.
My youngest is waiting for a blood test to check for coeliac as he has very mushy poo and has done always. He's 19months and we tried cutting out lactose/dairy but no change. You can't cut out gluten though until he's tested as they look for the antibodies.
Definitely worth a chat with the HV and/or GP.

Follow-on milk is notorious for causing problems with their bowels but I'm just wondering if the diarrhoea had coincided with the introduction of the cup of cow's milk?
