Meal ideas for 7.5 month old please! Feel like he’s having the same thing all the time

Hi, my 7.5 month old is eating 2 meals a day, breakfast which is usually porridge or weetabix made with his formula milk. And dinner around 5pm which varies, sometimes it’s from a jar and sometimes it’s something I’ve made like jacket potato and beans, pasta and sauce with a bit of cheese, spaghetti bolognaise, scrambled egg on toast. He usually has a bottle at lunchtime so isn’t really interested in food at that time.

I just feel like he’s eating a lot of the same foods and I want to give him a more varied experience! I do have a massive phobia of touching raw meat so it’s rare I cook with it unless it’s ready diced chicken/mince meat I can empty into the pan without touching so he’s not had a lot of meat yet. Any tips on how I can introduce meat/what should the consistency be like, should I be mashing it or offering it as finger food? Can I give him tuna?

He does like the occasion melty stick/carrot puff but I really don’t want him having a lot of those! He loves his fruit, he has raspberries and strawberries in one of those net food holders. Loves banana but does gag a lot with that. Any other suggestions?

Thanks in advance!

he can have whatever you have really, but use salt free stock cubes & avoid jar sauces. I also can’t touch raw meat, if I have to I use disposable gloves. Have you tried using gloves?

What about fish pie
cottage pie
chicken casserole
Salmon fishcakes
omelette
vegetable or chicken curry
cauliflower cheese

For breakfast:

  • homemade oat bars
  • overnight oats
  • pancakes
  • egg muffins
  • boiled eggs
  • avocado toast

For dinner I used to give my DD whatever we were having. I'd take out her portion before adding salt. She's 2 now so I don't bother with modifications

  • veggie shepherds pie (made with lentils and carrots, and sweet potato on the top, it's delish!
  • veggie lasagne (aubergine instead of mince)
  • chicken curry and rice
  • homemade pizza
  • meatball curry
  • paneer
  • oven baked salmon with green beans + mash

Don't forget to offer foods that you don't eat. For example, both DH and I hate mushrooms, but we'd still offer them to DD and she loves them.

How about trying Banana-cado for lunch?

If you don't like touching meat, how are you with fish?

He needs to be having a lot more veg in his diet at this age. The more you introduce him to now, the less likely he is to become a fussy eater at a later stage. It is also worth noting that you may have to offer him a new food up to 12 times, before he will accept it.

I do tend to agree with Science, you really do need to up the fruit and veg.

Try adding chopped banana or berries into his porridge and offering things like steamed green beans as a finger food alongside the spag Bol. Are you adding veg to the spag Bol as well?

Tip for fish: I bought fish pie mix from the supermarket as it's all in cubes. Starting with just one, I poached it in milk or water (only needs a few minutes). As DS got older we increased the number of pieces.
