Baby yogurts

The HV advised me today today to give DS baby yogurt , he's 6 months. I've never seen baby yogurts in the supermarket, do you know where I get them and if they are ok for a 6 month old?

the ready made ones can be high in sugar (but I used them anyway!!) e.g. muller little stars, munch bunch, petit filous, etc. You could also buy full fat plain yoghurt and add fruit puree to it to give alternative flavours which would cut the sugar content. The kids yoghurts are with the other yoghurts in the supermarket although most of the other yoghurts, fromage frais, etc are suitable from 6 months anyway.

nickytwotimes · 04/02/2008 19:47

mine got plain greek-style yogurt or plain Yeo valley because they are full fat. I mixed in fruit puree and he loved them. I'm surprised your hv recommended baby yogurts as they are full of sugar as Seona said.

If you're worried about sugar, Rachels little ones yoghurts or whatever they're called are organic and sugar free. Little Dish fromage frais are also sugar free. Also my DS loves plain yoghurt so you could just try yours on that and then you don't need to worry about the sugar or mixing or anything

LittleMy34 · 04/02/2008 19:48

Rachel's Organic do a kids yogurt called Little Rachel's that has no sugar in it, they sell it in Waitrose and the bigger Sainsbury's and Tesco.

also Little Dish fromage frais don't have sugar in either - again Waitrose, not sure about Tesco and not in Sainsburys.

but the easiest is plain yog mixed with fruit puree like those frutapura pots - DS1 lived off the stuff when we started weaning him.

HTH

snap spicemonster!

spicemonster · 04/02/2008 19:49

Both those I mentioned are sweetened with fruit juice incidentally, not artificial sweetener

spicemonster · 04/02/2008 19:50

You shop at Waitrose too don't you?

chocolateshoes · 04/02/2008 19:50

we also buy Rachel Greek yoghurt & add fruit puree. I'm sure its much cheaper plus no sugar. DS still loves this.

LittleMy34 · 04/02/2008 20:27

of course. it's the only place you're guaranteed to bump into your antenatal consultant in the booze aisle.

meep · 04/02/2008 20:34

Sainsburys kids fromage frais have no added sugar in them.

kittypower · 04/02/2008 20:38

Great thanks i'm off to have a better look in waitrose tomorrow. I've only just started weaning ds, so do i give it to him for breakfast or as pudding after veg puree???

snap for plain yoghurt and mashed fruit. Cheaper, nicer, better all round.

spicemonster · 04/02/2008 21:29

I give it to mine for pudding. But he'd eat nothing but yoghurt if he could get away with it.

I do plain yoghurt and mashed fruit but I'm a lazy cow and it's not as easy to shove in your bag as a ready-made one ;)

meep - that's good to know that about sainsburys - I got bored reading all the backs of the packets

LittleMy34 · 04/02/2008 21:57

spicemonster are you me? My DS would eat yoghurt and nothing else for the rest of his life too if I let him.

and we both shop in Waitrose.

[suspicious]

spicemonster · 04/02/2008 22:17

Possibly. Except I've never seen my consultant in Waitrose. I wouldn't be at all surprised to bump into him in the booze aisle though it must be said.

LittleMy34 · 05/02/2008 12:02

I think they spend a lot of time there. Probably the one aisle their pregnant patients don't spend a lot of time so can't badger them!

AlexanderPandasmum · 08/02/2008 00:15

My DS loves the 'Sainsbury's kids' yoghurts! He'd swap ME for one I think sometimes! [grin}
