How do you de-scale a Beaba Babycook

I read in the instructions that it should be de-scaled regularly but it didn't say how often or how to do it. Should I use kettle de-scaler or the citric stuff for sterilisers?

I used vinegar. Very smelly though. There were instructions in mine, something like 1 part vinegar to 4 parts water. I would not use a commercially bought kettle one as I woudln't like any of the chemicals ending up in the baby food but you can buy plain citric acid much cheaper and safer from independent chemists.

Thanks msappropriate. I'll have a look in the instruction booklet again to see if I've just missed it. Just in case I can't find it does it say how much vinegar and water and how long you should keep the babycook on steam for?

The jug bit on mine had markings on the side up to 5 so I filled up to 4 with water and then added vinegar to level 5 . Then I poured it in the bit that heated up and it steamed for as long as the water lasted. (the longest setting). Mine was old so these things may have changed. Its worth doing I think cos I was very lax with it and it stopped working until I descaled it a couple of times.

Thanks. I'll definitely do that. Mine's only got markings up to 3 but I'll use a measuring jug to work it out properly. I'm not sure how I'll know when it's run out of water. I think it's just over 20 minutes when I've put water in up to level 3.

Mine used to switch off automatically when the water finished. It didn't have a timer on it.

That is amazing, I am upstairs on the computer, just noticed this thread and amazingly, am descaling mine downstairs as we speak! I have no idea how to do it as I couldn't find the instructions but I have used one of those sachets of steriliser descalers from boots and followed their instructions i'e 200ml of water in the resevoir, switch on for 5 ins and add it in. I sincerely hope this will be ok, will let you know.
