How do you wash your LO's hands?

I'm thinking in particular of before they eat.

Bearing in mind the state of my floors and the fact that I keep finding DS playing with the toilet (which I DO clean but still..) a quick wipe with a damp cloth is probably not good enough!

You could buy one of those antibacterial hand sprays to use on his hands after a wipe with a babywipe/damp cloth. They don't leave a taste on the skin and they're dinky enough to carry in a handbag. Good also for when stupid people moan about their terrible cold/flu/diarrhea and then hold your dc's hands...

if I remember I just use a baby wipe . p.s. most of those hand gels arent suitable for babies/young children unless you get one specifically for them

i beg to differ a wipe with a damp cloth is plenty good enough. odd bit of crap from the floor v a load of parabens and chemicals, crap from the floor wins in my house.

LyraSilvertongue · 29/01/2008 12:42

I usually use baby wipes or a wet flannel.

Anna8888 · 29/01/2008 12:45

With Dove cream handwash - I rinse under the running tap.

callmeovercautious · 29/01/2008 12:46

I stand her at the sink and she splashes her hands in the water - enough to remove and hairs or jam stuck to them. That is once or twice a day, the rest of the time she gets a wipe with a flannel (after her meal etc to remove yoghurt). Otherwise I am a bit slack

RoxyMonoxide · 29/01/2008 12:53

I have to place DD2 is a headlock and hold her near the sink. She is a very reluctant washer. Although I have bought a bottle of India Hicks Island Living handwash in Spider Lily from Crabtree and Evelyn, and she seems to like that, so it's less of a chore. A poncetastic solution!

I never did & still don't at 3.5, unless he is particularly dirty. Don't see the need to tbh.

blissieblue · 29/01/2008 15:20

I think soap and water rather than baby wipes or anti bac spray would be my preferred option but just find it hard to do with a wriggly 9 month old. it's bad enough getting his brother's hands washed before meals.
Thanks anyway for the replies!

Really terramum, not even before meals?

We did wipe with damp cloth (that was washed regularly) until big enough to stand on chair safely and have hands washed properly.

terramum · 29/01/2008 17:09

Nope! We wash our hands straight after going to the loo so don't see the need to wash before eating as well. We all happily eat bits of food that get accidentally dropped on the floor & that's probably dirtier than our hands so why should we need to wash hands to eat food off a plate? A little dirt never hurt anyone

imaginewittynamehere · 29/01/2008 17:16

Wet flannel

ruty · 29/01/2008 17:32

ds likes the frog soap you get in a frog dispenser and comes out as green foam, can't remember what the brand name is. But we don't wash before every meal, just if we've been out doing stuff or are particularly dirty. we do wash after the loo though...
